Ambassadors Serving the Community!
Sheriff Dorning stopped by to collect the donations from the Trojan Ambassadors. They collected over 350 blankets and bears for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to give to children who have been involved in traumatic incidents. They would like to thank the students, teachers and community for their support!
Trojan Baseball Sweeps Sparkman
Hazel Green swept Sparkman last week to stay in the playoff hunt. They need to win at least two games against Buckhorn, so we need the Trojan Nation out in full force!

JROTC Presents on American Indian Culture
Commander Matheny and his JROTC cadets presented on American Indian culture to Mrs. Duggan's Sociology class. The program included a demonstration of the “sacred art of the giveaway” by giving candy to the students.
Boys Basketball Tryouts
Tryouts for Boys are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday of this week from 3:30-5:00pm. Students must have a valid physical to tryout.
French Honor Society
French Honor Society dues of $5.00 and honor cords for seniors, $13.00, deadline for payment is April 11. The initiation ceremony is Tues May 6, 2014 after school in Nll9. If you have questions email: Jacqueline Braudaway jbraudaway@madison.k12.al.us . Members must be initiated to wear the honor cord at the graduation ceremony.

Prom Announcements
Musical Auditions
Auditions for juniors who would like to perform at Prom will be held after school on April 15. See Mrs. Dean (Room N216) to sign up and get details by April 14th.
Photos
Also, seniors may submit a baby picture and a senior picture for the Prom slideshow. Photos should be in digital format, submitted to Mrs. Dean by Monday, April 21st. (pmdean@madison.k12.al.us) Please include the student’s first and last name with the photos.
Prom Attire Guidelines:
Girls Dress Code:
1. Excessive cleavage is not allowed.
2. Dress may be backless as long as it is not cut below the waist.
3. Navel may not be exposed.
4. No pinning will be allowed as an alteration for a dress if, without the pinning, the dress does not meet dress code.
5. Dress should not be excessively short or pulled up when dancing.
Boys Dress Code:
1. Suits or tuxedos should be worn.
2. Shirts must be buttoned up to the second button from the collar.
3. Pants should fit properly on the hip and not sag below the waistline.

The revision to next year’s calendar consists of four half-days for professional development (coded in purple). Please note the dates. Also, notice we will be out for President’s Day next year.
Summer Expo and Freshman Night - The following are the dates for your child to pick up his or her class schedule, parking space ($20), and lockers ($6) for the 2014-2015 school year:
- July 29 Expo Day—New Gym: 12th grade - 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 11th grade - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 10th grade - 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- July 31 Freshman Night 6:00 p.m. in New Gym
- Freshman Night will include a short assembly for parents and students orientation and organization purposes. Schedule pick up and locker purchases will be available immediately following. These dates are not required. However, if your child cannot come on his or her assigned grade level date, then these items will be available the first day of school which is August 5th.
- Students that have debts from the prior year will not be allowed to participate in these days until they are cleared.
The ACT Plus Writing assessment will be given to juniors on April 23 during school. A required pre-test will be given the morning of April 14. All appointments which would require missing school should be scheduled around these dates. Students will be required to present a photo ID such as a driver’s license to the test administrator as they enter the testing room. Students should also bring a #2 pencil and a permitted calculator (optional for mathematics portion of exam). Check www.actstudent.org for a list of prohibited calculators. Students should NOT BRING cell phones or any other electronic devices to the testing hall. To avoid cancellation of test scores and disciplinary action, these devices should remain at home or in vehicles. School personnel will not be responsible for storage of items. As a reminder, students may prepare for the test by using the ACT Online Prep website - http://www.actstudent.org/onlineprep/.

The Madison County School System will run double bus routes beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Hazel Green High and Meridianville Middle will begin school at 8:30 and end at 3:30 each day. All elementary and intermediate schools will begin at 7:45 and end at 2:30 each day. Parents will be allowed to drop students off thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of school.

Calhoun Community College is pleased to invite seniors from Madison County Schools to visit the Huntsville campus on April 24th, 2014, from 8:30AM-12:00 PM.
Agenda topics will include admissions procedures (with an opportunity to apply to college if you haven’t yet), FAFSA and financial aid, choosing a major, placement test information, and more. All seniors are welcome! The event will be most beneficial, however, to students who are undecided or unsure about some aspect of the college process. Thanks to a generous donation from Redstone Federal Credit Union,lunch will be provided for the students and school chaperones. West Point's Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) applications will be open to juniors through April 11th. SLE is a great week of academic, military, and physical excellence. The program consists of daily morning physical training, academic classes, afternoon sports, a day of military training, administration of the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), a West Point tour, and social functions. The academic program features workshops and class samplings from the Academy's curriculum. All participants are housed in the cadet barracks and meals are in the Cadet Mess. US Naval Academy Summer Programs - Summer STEM program is designed for rising 8th-11th graders who are interested in pursuing education in the science, technology, engineering and math fields. The Summer Seminar program, designed for rising 12th graders, gives students the opportunity to find out if they have what it takes to be a midshipmen. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week – Recognition for students who not only excel as athletes but also excel in the classroom and in the community. Applicants must be seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA and include a photo with the application. Athlete of the Year will be chosen from the Athletes of the Week to receive a $1000 scholarship. Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors students on April 23 during school. First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 7: 20 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.

Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
