What a valuable lesson for all of us to remember! Learning how to disagree respectfully can be powerful learning for adults and students. Please take a few minutes to watch the video below to hear what Kid President has to say about this timely topic. I am asking that each classroom teacher show this video to your students sometime this week. I think the ideas shared will resonate with our scholars and help them think and reflect on how to handle disagreements in the classroom, on the playground, in the cafeteria, on the bus and even in their neighborhoods. I also encourage you to give them time to reflect and talk about what was highlighted in the video, what they agree/disagree with and how they can apply what "The Kid" has to say.
Enjoy!
Karen
Kid President Is Over It!
New Attendance Clerk Joins Team Pinewood
Sheila King will join Team Pinewood on Tuesday, September 13th as our attendance clerk. Mrs. King has 15 years of public school experience and understands all areas of the busy elementary office. She spent 13 years as the registrar/secretary for Gosnell Elementary in Gosnell, Arkansas and 2 years as the secretary to the personnel director for Cabot Public Schools. Mrs. King's experience, vibrant personality and positive attitude make her the perfect candidate to join our amazing team! I know that you will give her a warm Pinewood welcome!
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on Monday, September 19 from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Notes will be sent home in the Tuesday folder for parents to sign up for an appointment time. These notes will be copied for you and placed in your boxes Monday morning. I will send out a Blackboard message to remind parents about conferences. You may want to push out a message on Dojo to encourage parents to send back the sign up form no later than Thursday. There will also be reminder notes for you to fill out and send home on Friday once appointments are made. Our goal is 100% parental participation. We are still working on the AIP issue and will keep you posted in regard to where we stand with getting them printed.
The following should be discussed at conferences:
- Student progress (academic/behavior)
- Test Scores (state scores will be shared Monday 9/12)
- AIP/IRI (if applicable)
- For 3rd - 5th grade students Google App permission form (will be copied for you)
- New Pinewood Community Academy Opportunities (flyer will be copied and shared)
Lunch will be provided and grade levels will break at the following times:
12:30- KG/1st
1:00- 2nd/3rd
1:30 - 4th/5th
Please make sure your parents are aware of your lunch time. I have removed those times from your grade level sign up sheet. Please try to keep conferences to 20 minutes. If you see a conference is going longer than expected, invite the parent back to continue the conversation during your planning time.
