News from the Nest
Cardinal Pride in the Upper Dublin School District
November 2018
A Message from Dr. Yanni...
As we broaden our communication strategies, we are pleased to introduce the first edition of our eNewsletter - News from the Nest! The Upper Dublin School District is proud of its tradition of educational excellence and grateful for the support we receive from our dedicated community. We plan to use eNewsletters to share the many wonderful things happening for students in our District.
Prior to the Thanksgiving break, our staff enjoyed a dress-down day. In exchange for wearing comfortable clothes, I asked our staff to tweet about what they are thankful for in Upper Dublin. If you use Twitter, do a quick search for #UDThankful and @UpperDubSuper. We have much to be thankful for in our District!
Several weeks ago we sent a call for volunteers to the community for assistance with our strategic action planning process. We are excited that approximately 70 community members expressed interest in being part of this important work as we plan for the future. Through collaboration with stakeholders we will engage in thoughtful planning in the areas of teaching and learning, technology, engagement, budget, human resources, and operations. Strategic action planning participants will be notified of the initial meeting via e-mail in the next few weeks.
We are currently planning our second “Coffee Talk” event. I was both honored and humbled by the great turn out and fantastic conversations! At the event, a community member suggested a virtual meeting for those parents, guardians, and community members who may be interested in participating but cannot attend a face-to-face meeting. Our virtual “Coffee Talk” session will be held on Tuesday, December 11th at 7PM. Stay tuned for an eNotification with additional information!
As always, we appreciate the community's support of the work we do each day on behalf of our students. To further enhance communication, please click here to see the Steps of Communication document that we shared earlier this year. Our hope is that the Steps of Communication provides guidance as to who to contact when you have questions or concerns. There are no problems that cannot be fixed or concerns that cannot be addressed through purposeful collaboration! Together we can - and together we will - accomplish great things for our students. We are all part of a dynamic team focused on making our students’ experiences truly exceptional.

OPERATIONALLY SPEAKING
Sandy Run Middle School Project Update
At this time the District is reviewing the modular building bids. Modular classrooms will serve as temporary classrooms during construction. The modulars, along with the new SRMS, will be ADA compliant and will reflect 21st century learning by including collaboration areas in addition to classroom spaces. A planetarium and auditorium are included in the new SRMS. The new SRMS is projected to open in 2022. We will update the community as the SRMS project continues.
WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND
What to Expect When the Weather is Inclement
In addition to schedule changes and to ensure that we communicate well with parents, guardians, and families, we will implement the following procedures when buses are delayed more than ten (10) minutes leaving any of our schools:
- The school where the delay occurred will send an eNotification to parents, guardians, and families about the delay. The time of departure will be noted in the e-mail.
- The District website will be updated with the departure information.
- Social media will be updated with the relevant information.
We are hopeful that these steps will assist in keeping the lines of communication between home and school open.
