Lion Nation,
Our number one function as a school is to educate our students to become competitive in the “Real World". Knowledge gained through our core academic classes is priceless.
There are also many lessons learned outside the core academic classes. Our students are performing Sister Act tonight and tomorrow. Students participating in Sister Act will gain these skills and many more:
- Teamwork
- Self Expression
- Problem Solving
- Memorization
- Physical Activity- Dance
- Interpretation of Script
- Conflict resolution
- AV Technical Skills
- Respect for Others
- Pride for Working Hard
- Goal accomplishment
All of these skills transfer perfectly to any job I can think of. To the cast of Sister Act, BREAK A LEG!!!

Habitat for Humanity
Students from Stephen Matkoff’s construction class have been earning hands-on experience throughout the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in McKinney over the past few months. On Friday, they celebrated the completion of the build with the family at a small dedication ceremony held at the house.
Habitat for Humanity awarded the Golden Hammer to the group from MHS for their contribution to the effort!

Regional Swimming and Diving Results
Regionals 2018 is in the books.
We took 11 swimmers 3 divers.
Seniors: Christina Pennell (Captain), Nick Chan (Captain), Lindsay Strohm (Captain), Ethan Montano, & Landry Argabright Juniors: AJ Sullivan (D), Aly Grider, & Alec Weigel Sophomores: Taylor Todd, Aubry Matthews, Jakob Shackleton, & Brendan Hardy(D) Freshman: Lauren Pennell (D) & Drew Safstrom
Thursday started the festivities with our divers performing their best dives. Junior AJ Sullivan finished 7th place overall for the ladies, with Freshman Lauren Pennell coming in 13th. Sophomore Brendan Hardy finished strong in 11th place on the men’s side. Very proud of our divers and their success this season!
Friday swimming preliminaries began, and while the successes were noteworthy individually, let me summarize by saying ALL 11 swimmers made it back for finals, Saturday, and here is the update…..
- EVENT 1: Women’s 200 Medley Relay: These ladies broke the school record in prelims, and AGAIN in finals…. Senior Captain Lindsay Strohm, Junior Aly Grider, and Sophomores Taylor Todd and Aubry Matthews, initially seated 12th, finished the meet in 7th with a 1:54.91. We can’t wait to see this up on the record board in the fall!
- EVENT 3: Women’s 200 yard Freestyle: Senior Lindsay Strohm was seeded 13th going into the event and finished in 14th place on Saturday’s finals.
- EVENT 5: Women’s 200 yard IM: Junior Aly Grider finished the weekend with a best time in this event, and a 3.5 second drop to finish 9th.
- EVENT 8: Men’s 50 yard Freestyle: Captain Nick Chan swam amazing races each day- bringing him from a 10th place seed to a 3rd place finish with an astounding time of 21.70. What an energetic and fun finish to watch!!!!!
- EVENT 11: Women’s 100 yard Butterfly: Aly Grider, seeded 12th, finishes the weekend in 10th place with a final time of 1.00:54.
- EVENT 13: Women’s 100 yard Freestyle: Sophomore Aubry Matthews finishes strong improving from 10th to 9th place with a 54.93.
- EVENT 14: Men’s 100 yard Freestyle: Nick Chan improves his time by .22 seconds to finish 11th place with a 49.37.
- EVENT 15: Women’s 500 yard Freestyle: Christina Pennell rocked all 20 laps – dropping over 5 seconds to finish in 11th place overall.
- EVENT 17: Women’s 200 Freestyle Relay: The ladies improved their position, finishing in 6th place with a 2.8 second drop . Way to go, Lindsay, Taylor, Christina and anchor Aubry.
- EVENT 18: Men’s 200 Freestyle Relay: Senior Ethan Montano, Sophomore Jakob Shackleton, Seniors Landry Argabright, and Nick Chan drop 2.6 seconds, but were DQ’d.
- EVENT 21: Women’s 100 yard Breaststroke: Taylor Todd brings in a 15th place finish with a 1.14.39 .
- EVENT 22: Men’s 100 yard Breastroke: Junior Alec Weigel rings in an 11th place finish with a time of 1:03.13 in a heated race, improving his time over prelims.
- EVENT 23: Women’s 400 yard Freestyle Relay: Senior Captains Lindsay and Christina lead the first 2 legs, with Sophomore Aly Grider and Freshman Aubry Matthews to bring the girls to a 4th place finish with a 4.5 second improvement. These ladies improved each segment which provided an exciting race for all!
- EVENT 24: Men’s 400 yard Freestyle Relay: Senior Ethan Montano, Senior Captain Nick Chan, Sophomore Jakob Shackleton, and Freshman Drew Safstrom improved their 11th place seed to a strong 8th place finish and more than a 4 second drop. Way to go Lions!
- The Ladies finished 6th overall as a team out of 30, and the Men finished 12th out of 30.

This year we are transitioning to the Home Access Center (HAC) for AP Fee Collections.

Pre-administration for AP Exams will take place in the cafeteria the first week of April.

2018-2019 Marquette Tryout Information
Want to audition to be a part of the McKinney Marquette dance team? We are having tryouts for our national award winning dance team in March, and we want you! Click here to check out a video of what the Marquettes are all about. We will have an informational meeting to answer any questions on Tuesday February 13th at 7:00 pm in the MHS cafeteria.
Simple Steps to complete to tryout
- STEP ONE: Register for Varsity Marquette class class with your counselor
- STEP TWO: Complete the online application at www.mckinneymarquettes.shutterfly.com.
- STEP THREE: Make sure you have a physical for this school year on file with the district or get a physical and take a picture/scan it and send to aneely@mckinneyisd.net
- STEP FOUR: Get a utility bill and email it to aneely@mckinneyisd.net by taking a picture or scanning it in.
- STEP FIVE: Attend all tryout clinics and tryouts on March 26-29 at MHS in the gym from 4:30-6:30.
We will also be having an information audition meeting on February 13th at 7:00 pm in the MHS Cafeteria to answer any questions you might have about they tryout process or Marquettes!
