TAMANEND PINK OUT 2020

Thank you to our many staff members, students, and families who supported our Tamanend 2020 Pink Out. This year, we held the Pink Out on two days (Tuesday, October 20 and Friday, October 23) so that both hybrid groups could participate in person. The American Cancer Society Denim Days Pink Out brings us together to help save lives from breast cancer in a fun and unique way. Donations help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking breast cancer research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. We are still calculating our final donation count, but we exceeded our goal of raising $500. Thank you to Mrs. Lisa Mancini for organizing this event and for her many years of supporting this important cause and raising awareness.

Reminder--Help Us Honor Veterans in Our Community

As Veterans Day approaches, Tamanend Middle School would like to honor those who have served our country. On Wednesday, November 11th we will hold our Veterans Day Assembly virtually. We would like this presentation to be meaningful, not just for our students, but also for local veterans in our community and their families. As such, if you have pictures of friends and/or family who have served in the armed forces who we can recognize, please send them, along with their name, military branch, years served, and rank to Jeff Klein (jklein@cbsd.org) by November 6th. Thank you.

Tamanend Parent Book Club

Join us for the Tamanend Parent Book Club. This year, we will be reading It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens (2015) by Danah Boyd. The book describes how social media impacts teenagers and how they connect with the world around them. This book club will follow a "no-pressure" format in which the facilitator will present a summary of the chapter and open the floor for discussion. We will share resources and ideas with the goal of helping the entire Tamanend parent community navigate the challenges and joys of raising adolescents. The first meeting will be held on November 12 at 6:30 via Teams. Click here to read more about the Parent Book Club. Click here to join the meeting.

Reminder--Mock Trial Team for 9th Graders

We are pleased to offer the Mock Trial Club at Tamamend for any interested 9th graders. It’s a great way to learn about the legal profession and debate your way through an actual case as either a lawyer or a witness, as well as build your skills for future participation and competition at CB South. Please e-mail Mr. Heisey (jheisey@cbsd.org) or Mr. Sterner (dsterner@cbsd.org) if you are interested. Thank you!

Reminder--Tamanend Today Club

While we can’t currently run Tamanend Today, our live weekly TV show, we are still seeking interested students who enjoy broadcast media and video production. We have some ideas for production until we can go live again, and we would like your ideas for when we can go live. Until then, join us and be a part of producing meaningful, pre-recorded broadcasts and features. If media production is your thing, please reach out via e-mail to Mr. Sterner (dsterner@cbsd.org) or Mr. Landis (mdlandis@cbsd.org) to be part of our Tamanend Today Club! Thank you!

HELPFUL REMINDERS ABOUT TAMANEND PROCEDURES

Communicating Absences

Teachers will be taking attendance every class period during hybrid learning. If your child is unable to participate in hybrid learning during all or part of the day due to illness or medical appointment, please report your child's absence in any of the following ways:

Please note for Hybrid students: If your child is participating online from home due to illness on a day he or she is scheduled to be in the building, please contact Attendance. Your child will receive Attendance credit for participating online that day if he/she is logging on to Teams calls and participating in classes.

Screening and Self-Reporting

One of the most important things everyone, students and staff, can do is stay home when they are sick. Families will monitor their child daily for fever and other symptoms of COVID-19 before sending them to school each day. As always, any student who becomes ill while in school will visit the nurse. It is also critically important for every one to self-report if they have had known, direct exposure to a positive COVID-19 case. If a student or employee tests positive for COVID-19, they may not return to school until the following three criteria are met:

  • isolation restrictions dictated by the Bucks County Department of Health are lifted, AND
  • 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, OR if asymptomatic, 10 days since the date of their positive test, AND
  • once they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication

The individual will need to report directly to the health suite upon returning to school to be evaluated by the school nurse. A"flowchart," found below, has been prepared to help families determine when to send their child to school.

Reminder--Please Update Emergency & Census Information in Parent Portal

Each year, the Central Bucks School District requires our families to update emergency and census information in Parent Portal. This takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

The online form will ask you to confirm and/or update the following:

  • Demographic Information
  • Emergency Contacts
  • Health Information, including permission for emergency care and analgesic administration
  • Media Release Preferences

If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please follow this link to request one. If you need help with your Parent Portal account, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to update this important information!

Reminder--Students Should Check Outlook Email Daily

A reminder that students should check their Outlook email daily for important reminders and information from teachers. This is another great way to stay connected.

AM and PM Traffic Flow

Please help us to control the flow of traffic for car riders during drop-off and pick-up. If possible, please consider entering the Tamanend parking lot from the Kelly Road side of the property. If you are coming from Bristol Road, please drive past the school and make a safe u-turn farther down Stuckert Road. Then, form a single-file line on the shoulder so that you will be making a right turn into the parking lot. Trying to make a left turn can back up traffic and can delay buses and dismissal. Although the line may look long, everyone clears out safely by 1:25pm. Thanks for your help!
