2018-2019 Updates!
Return of Books
When returning books, students are expected to place their books in the book return slot. This slot is located at the end of my circulation desk. Books should be returned on your library day before 8:50 a.m. If books need to be returned later, there is a cart located by the door across from the cafeteria, that you may place books on until 11 a.m. If your class is scheduled in the afternoon and you have missed the morning drop into the book return slot, PLEASE bring your books when you come to class. This will ensure that students books get checked in prior to checking out new ones. Please feel free to send your students down to the office for a wagon to return your entire class' books. These wagons will need to be returned to the office once books have been returned. Thank you in advance for helping book return run smoothly.
Open Library
Open library will continue to be on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 1:30-3 p.m. This time is reserved for PALS students who have not checked out books and for students who have finished reading all of their books. I will place several passes in your mailboxes for you to begin distributing. Also, consider to copy a sheet of blank passes to laminate for the students who will need them throughout the year, to save on paper. A blank copy of passes will be located in the teacher's workroom. The following guidelines will still apply:
1. You must have taken a quiz on all 3 of your books.
2. You must bring back the books in order to check out new ones.
3. You must have your AR level on the pass.
4. You may only come down once on Wednesday.
5. Teachers may only send 2 students at a time with a pass.
4th Grade Jr. Librarian
This year, I'm excited to announce that I will be taking applications from 4th Graders to become Jr. Librarians. It is my hope that this will be a position of leadership and that it will benefit all students at O.J. Neighbours. These students will help maintain the library, read to younger classes, and help shelve the many books that we check out every week. These students will be given one (1) 20 minute time-slot each week and be expected to treat this position as any future job. At the end of the semester, these students will be rewarded for their service with an ice cream party. 4th grade teachers, please talk up this position to your students and if they are interested to send them to pick up an application. I will accept applications until Friday, August 24th!
