We are pleased to share our Winter 2020 ASE catalog.

Registration opens on Monday January 27 at 9pm and will close on Thursday January 30th at 11pm. Registration is online through the Community Pass system, https://register.communitypass.net/reg/cat_program_list.cfm?season_id=21493


Classes start on or around February 10th and each will have 8 sessions from 2:45pm until 4:00p.m. Please carefully read the class dates as they may vary. There is no late bus available for ASE dismissal.

Winter 2020 COURSE OFFERINGS

MONDAY

FENCING: This enrichment class, taught by the New Jersey Fencing Alliance, is designed to teach students the fundamentals of fencing in a safe and fun atmosphere. Students will learn footwork, blade work and strategy. In addition to practicing the fundamentals, students will have the opportunity to participate in mock competitions. No experience required, all equipment will be provided.

ACTING, IMPROV AND COMEDY: In this course taught by Step Right Up Studios, students will learn the basics of theater and improvisation. If you are interested in acting, improv, comedy, or anything in between, this is the program for you. Work on building scenes, apply them to acting in plays, movies and more all while working on self-expression and self-awareness through the creative process of character development. No performance experience necessary for this engaging, all inclusive and interactive class! Our instructor is a Drew graduate, stand up comedian and improver. He created an improv troupe while at Drew and uses his craft to teach and perform.

American Red Cross Babysitting Certification : The goal of this course is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. A snack break is planned into the day. Please remember to send a snack and refillable water bottle with your student.

PLEASE NOTE: STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE BOTH SESSIONS TO OBTAIN CERTIFICATION. NO MAKE UPS WILL BE OFFERED.

TUESDAY


CREATIVE CERAMICS : Come and join Mrs. Keeshan in her Art Room for fun, creative, and functional projects. Hand-building and glazing techniques will be explored. Several beautiful projects will be completed and sent home. Registration fee includes all supplies.

SEWING FOR BEGINNERS (NEW): Learn how to sew and appliqué by machine and make an adorable pillow to take home. Students will safely use a sewing machine with straight and zig zag stitches.

All level of sewers are welcome! Fabric will be provided

DAYDREAMING & DOODLING (NEW): Designers will learn basic hand lettering techniques and use whimsical doodles to create a layout for a personalized bullet journal. A bullet journal is a collection of lists that are created in an artistic way. Topics may include favorites lists, birthday lists, goal trackers, bedroom design ideas, calendars for planning and reminding, summer bucket lists, doodle a day, extracurricular activity goals, daydreams, books to read, what I want/what I need, inspiring quotes, things I would like to try and anything else that the designer can dream up! Registration fee includes all supply costs.

THE MINDFUL MIDDLE: Mindfulness is all about living fully in the moment, with an attitude of kindness and curiosity. It’s about breathing, noticing what’s happening and then letting it go. You can be mindful anytime, anywhere, no matter what you’re doing. It sounds simple, but it’s not always easy to do. In this class we will explore and learn about simple, informal ways to use mindfulness every day as a way to achieve self awareness and understanding. *For any returning students, Mrs. Mandala will look to further your mindfulness work that was previously taught.

WEDNESDAY

I Saw it on Pinterest! : Try your hand at creating some of the latest trends on Pinterest. Possible projects include whimsical pom pom flowers, mason jar crafts, paper crafts, personal monogrammed decor items, seasonal crafts and student picked items. Find treasures and value in simple recycled materials and up cycled goods that are combined with a few new items. Crafters will walk away with fun treasures to use as gifts or keep for themselves! Check Mrs. Gaunt's board in Pinterest by googling: I saw that on Pinterest! Enrichment program Simone Gaunt. Note: ideas on the board are simply suggestions. Projects will vary. Registration fee includes all supply costs.

The Baker’s Dozen: Students will indulge in the art of baking to make simple and delicious sweets to enjoy, try at home or package as gifts. Each week will focus on a different baked item from brownies, bars, and breakfast bites to cookies, cupcakes, cheesecakes and holiday delights. When possible, students will be given choice in regard to flavors/add-ins and recipe variations. Some sessions will also include creative packaging ideas for our homemade baked goods. Recipes and food gifting ideas will be offered as well. For all who have a sweet tooth and an interest or love of baking, this class is for you!

THURSDAY

KNIT THIS, KNOT THAT! (NEW): Want to learn how to knit? Would you like to relax and make creative projects with friends? Create beautiful handmade gifts for yourself or others! Project choices include (but are not limited to) drink coasters, mug cozies, hats, scarves, phone holders, beanbags, plush animals, and more! Students will be responsible for purchasing their own yarn. A complete set of needles will be provided as well as a small sample yarn ball for learning on the first day of class. A supply list of necessary types of yarn for the various projects will be given upon registering for this class. Experienced knitters are welcome too!

SNACK ATTACK!: It’s back and better than ever! Mrs. McHugh is offering her beloved class where students will prepare nutritious and delicious after school snacks and/or light meals. Correct food preparation techniques, good nutrition and safety in the kitchen will be emphasized.

FLOOR HOCKEY: Have fun while learning or improving stick handling skills playing floor hockey. Mr. Farley will lead this enrichment class to give students the opportunity of developing skills through modified games, practice, and competition all leading up to a culminating tournament. All skill levels are welcome. Hockey sticks and goggles will be provided.

FYI’s:

The CMS PTO reserves the right to cancel the course if the minimum number of students is not achieved. If the enrollment exceeds the maximum number for the class, a wait list will be established on a first come, first served basis. Every attempt will be made to make up all any unplanned class cancellations (teacher absence, snow, etc) by adding a date (s) at the end of the session. Weekly emails are sent every Sunday to let you know the ASE schedule for the week ahead.

Regular school disciplinary policies will be applicable to all After School Enrichment classes, regardless of the instructor.

No nurse is on duty during the After School Enrichment program. Please let your child’s instructor know if your students has and special needs or allergies. All information is kept strictly confidential. Our Security moderator is on site until all students are safely dismissed.

REFUNDS – Refunds will not be given for missed classes or if you withdraw from class. All other refund requests will be considered on a case by case basis. Refunds will be issued if the instructor is unable to complete the scheduled classes for reasons other than unplanned school closures. Refunds by check will be given if the class is cancelled due to low enrollment.
