This event provides an opportunity for students and parents to come together to celebrate a love of reading through various activities at both locations.


Greater Valley Middle School:

Scholastic Book Fair (May 16-20, 2016)

Parade Poster contest (May 21st during lunch)

*Winner's poster will be displayed at Davis Cook Library)


Davis Cook Library:

The following activities will be taking place on Saturday, May 21st from 9:00am-2:00pm:


Tours of Resources, Technology usages, Literacy Tutors, Mentors, Mayor, Local congressional district leaders, Church Leader, Board member for Greater Valley, Superintendent of schools, Principal, Teachers, Parents and Students.

9:00am-10:00am Technology Use Presentation given by GVMS library staff and Davis Cook Library staff (Usage goals for 2017)

10:00am-10:30am Mayor Michael Smith (Keynote Speaker will speak on the partnership between GVMS and Davis Cook Library)

10:30am-11:00am Dr. Stephen Diaz (Superintendent of Davis Cook ISD will speak on the importance of literacy for our youth)

(Break 11:00-11:15)

11:15am-11:30am Mrs. Penelope Jones (Principal of Greater Valley MS will speak on budget goals for 2017)

11:30am-11:45am Shelley Travis & Robert Ramirez (Davis Cook Library staff will speak on virtual access to the library webpage)

11:45am-12:00pm Mr. Christopher Paul Curtis (Mr. Curtis will discuss how literacy has transformed his life in becoming an award-winning author.)

12:00pm-2:00pm Book signing by Mr. Curtis
