The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School.
Busy Times
Please take a moment to answer our one question survey. Please click on the link below.
I wanted to take a moment to write about the various topics that have been occurring at Carleton since we've come back from break.
First and foremost, we had the privilege of having Dr. Livernois (Superintendent), Mr. Bernia (Chief Academic Officer), Ms. Irvine (Chief Operating Officer), and Mr. Callendar (WEA President) visit our school on Tuesday afternoon to honor and award Ms. Jessica Syswerda as Middle School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Syswerda is an ELA teacher and School Improvement Chair that works tirelessly to help her students learn and grow as readers and writers and consistently sets high expectations for learning outcomes for all to achieve. Congratulations Ms. Syswerda!
Next, we successfully finished WIDA testing for all of our English Language Learner students. I want to thank Ms. Lane, Ms. Lenz, Ms. Bell, Ms. Fredlund, Ms. Erdelean, Ms. Sesi and Ms. Shkembi for their outstanding efforts to make this happen.
We are also in the midst of measuring our students' growth in the areas of reading, language, and mathematics using the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress. We hope to see positive gains from all of our students from the fall and will be sharing results at our upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences (March 16th).
Our girls basketball season is well underway and its exciting to see our student athletes progress on the court and start to understand the game at a different level.
Our Concert Band and Cadet Band had a successful performance on Tuesday night with guest clinician, Dr. Max Plank. Similar to basketball, we witnessed our students get better in a few moments under the tutelage of their teachers and coaches.
Lastly, we have been planning our incoming 6th grade orientation, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28th at 6pm. Please help spread the word to any families that will be new to Carleton for the 2017-2018 school year.

Student Council Fundraiser
The students at Carleton have been busy raising funds for St. Baldrick's, an organization committed to finding a cure to childhood cancers. Most recently, our students were able to purchase St. Baldrick's Bucks during lunchtime to display around our school to bring awareness to this great cause. Please consider making a donation to this great cause or supporting our students and Ms. Ciak as they shave their heads on March 11th in downtown Romeo to support the research needed to find the necessary cure.
