RVHS Newsletter

Our average daily attendance is around 75%. That is, on average, 75% of all the students enrolled are present on any given day. Of course, we all know that the higher the attendance rate the better our students will do--and the closer they will get to their goal of earning a diploma! Plus, "being here" and "being on time" are super important skills that students take with them to the world of work! We 100% encourage all of our students to be here everyday! What steps can your student take to make sure that her/his attendance is as good as it can be?
Back Gate Closes at 9:00 am
Just as a reminder, our back gate coming up from the student parking lots (and from where the buses drop everyone off) will be closing at 9:00 am. To get to your classrooms after 9:00 am you will need to enter through the front doors of Rancho Vista's main office--off of Pio Pico Road! Remember: you need to be in your 1st period class by 8:45 am. And for everyone's safety, please don't hop the fence if you should find it locked! Thanks!

Last week I provided a link about the district's new dress code. I wanted to make sure that everyone sees it so I'm going to reprint the main portion of the dress code here in the body of the newsletter. If you'd like to read the whole document, here it is!
This is from TVUSD Administrative Regulation 5132:
"Temecula Valley Unified School District believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. Student attire and grooming must permit the student to participate in learning without posing a risk to the health or safety of any student or school district personnel. The school district is responsible for seeing that student attire does not disrupt school activity or contribute to a hostile or intimidating atmosphere for any student.
1. Students must wear clothing including a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent (for example dresses, leggings, or shorts) and shoes.
2. Clothing shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments and buttocks. No underwear, undergarments, or clothing that is comparable to undergarments (e.g. bathing suits that resemble the same coverage of an undergarment) may be visible at any time. Clothing may not be see-through or mesh if underwear is visible underneath.
3. Attire may not display images that are violent and/or depict drugs, drug paraphernalia, alcohol, or promote any unlawful act. Additionally, attire may not contain imagery, words or acronyms associated with hate speech, profanity, pornography, or any promotion and/or endorsement of violence, alcohol or drug use."
As I mentioned last week, we appreciate everyone's help in making sure that the dress code is followed.

I hope that all of you have a restful Labor Day tomorrow!! We'll see our students back at school on Tuesday, September 6th.

CELL PHONES: NEED TO BE AWAY DURING INSTRUCTIONAL TIME!
RVHS is working to support good study/classroom habits with all students!
The Staff is united with the common goal to eliminate cell phones as a distraction during learning time. We need our students and parents to partner with us to make this happen. To meet this goal, our teachers will make it clear to each of their classes about WHEN cell phones can be out and used--and when they should be put away/not used. The key will be to avoid cell phone use during instructional time.
Students may (of course) continue to use their phone before school, at break, during passing periods (if time permits), during lunch, and after school. Parents and guardians, please refer to the 22-23 bell schedule (previously shared) and try to communicate with your student during non-instructional time.
