Conquistador Corner
Arroyo Seco Junior High School -- March 20, 2020
Staff Stuff
Seco Family,
We made it through the first week of online instruction! It was great to see everyone (and your kids!) on the Google Meet this morning. Thank you for all of your hard work and for sharing your resources, successes, and questions.
Our updates during the school closure will now take place in the form of the Friday faculty meetings and the Conquistador Corner. Naturally, we will send out emails to share any big updates or pressing matters. Here is the latest:
We have no new information about a possible extension of school closure. The district is in regular communication with the State and daily communication with LA County Office of Education. When we get updated information, we will let you know as soon as possible -- or we'll hear it directly from the district.
Remember that the school is completely shut down and no one should be on campus. We have made exceptions to provide chrome books for students, but by now everyone should be set. Thank you for your help in identifying those needing support.
Third quarter grades are due by 12:30 on Monday. If you have a last second change, email Joy before grades post on Tuesday afternoon. After that, we won't have the ability to make grade changes until we are back on campus.
Thank you to Team Aloha, who have volunteered to provide daily inspirational emails Monday through Thursday next week to help us all stay connected.
I appreciate all of your planning, hard work, communication, and collaboration as we begin online learning. I know this has been a huge adjustment for everyone working at home with the added responsibilities of caring for kids and family members. I have been extremely impressed with how everyone has stepped up and supported each other in the process. Take care of yourselves and your families and have a great weekend!

Weekly Wellness
March’s habit of the month is “Play and Create” and the disposition is “Courage”
Creativity and play unlock inner resources for dealing with stress, solving problems, and enjoying life. When we are creative, we are resourceful, and we problem-solve in new and original ways, which fuels our courage. Our thinking expands, and our connections with ourselves and others deepen. Spring Break (or “Social Distancing” and “Distance Learning”) brings an opportunity to explore play and creativity so that you can integrate these activities into daily life. Resilience arises from creation.
-Elena Aguilar, Onward
Having to work and teach online, from home during this time of “social distancing” is new and, at times, very stressful. As we figure out how to utilize technology effectively and efficiently, now is the perfect time to channel some of that stress into creativity and exploration. Here are some great articles about how being creative during stressful times helps us and how creativity is beneficial in general.
