Aimsweb Winter Benchmarks
In January, Indian Prairie Community Unit School District 204 administered the aimswebPlus benchmark assessments to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. These brief Illinois Learning Standards aligned assessments evaluate academic performance and growth in the areas of early literacy/reading and early numeracy/mathematics. These benchmark assessments are administered again in May. The purpose of these assessments is to evaluate student academic growth toward end of year expectations. These assessment results are used by teachers and administrators to assist with instructional planning and differentiation at the grade, classroom and student level.
Depending on grade level, literacy measures assess vocabulary, phonological awareness, word recognition, reading comprehension and reading fluency; and numeracy measures assess number sense, operations, algebraic thinking, measurement/data, geometry, fractions and ratios/proportions. These areas of performance are summarized in an overall early literacy/reading and early numeracy/mathematics score.
Your child’s national and district percentile ranks in these academic areas will be available within the Home Access Center on Friday, February 14, 2020 at
https://ipe-hac.eschoolplus.powerschool.com/HomeAccess
Go to the Grades area and Test Scores tab. Please note that the average range extends from the 16th to 84th percentile rank; variations in your child’s scores should be interpreted in the context of other indicators of academic performance including daily classroom work, teacher observation, historic academic performance, etc.
Paper copies of individual student reports will be available upon request. Should you have any questions regarding your child’s aimswebPlus results, please contact the school principal.
Regards,
Charles Sprandel
Executive Director of Research and Assessment
Indian Prairie School District #204
February 14th Class Friendship Parties
Our annual Friendship Parties are approaching and we are excited to celebrate at Kendall School with the exchange of cards or special notes, if students would like to participate. Time will be scheduled on Friday, February 14th for students to exchange in their classrooms as they celebrate a day of friendship with one another.
As a reminder, we ask that families refrain from sending candy or food treats in with cards. These items cannot be distributed at school. We encourage you to send a card only to keep the focus of the day on kind words of friendship. Students may include a school supply item with their cards, if they choose. School supplies should be taped to the outside of the card. Other items (toys, jewelry, etc.) will not be distributed.
We are excited to share in the joy of friendship with our students and appreciate your support! Any specific grade level information will be shared by your child’s teacher.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Kendall School will be holding 2nd semester parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 1:00 – 8:00 pm. Traditionally, this second conference session is not scheduled for every family and instead based upon a teacher or parent request.
Please note that Thursday, February 27th is not a school day for students. Students will also be off on Friday, February 28th for a district-wide institute day for staff.
Kindergarten Parent Preview Night
We Need Your Feedback - Survey Closes Friday, February 14th
Kendall currently has a 30% response rate from our parents. Please consider completing the survey as we value your input!
Parents across Illinois once again have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of your child’s school as it relates to the important elements of school effectiveness.
On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school.
To take this short survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
2. Type and select “Dupage” as "County." (The county is the location of the school district's main office.)
3. Type your school's name into the "School" field and select your school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains. Research has shown that schools strong on these indicators are ten times more likely to improve student learning. The five indicators that effect school success are effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Thank you for your feedback.
