Principal's Corner
Dear Morton Families,
I can't believe it has been two weeks since we last saw each other. I am certainly missing all your "littles" and their smiling faces, high fives and hugs. I hope all of you are doing well and staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. Although this time of uncertainty has been challenging for all of us, I want you to know how much we all appreciate your efforts to stay connected with the school, classroom teachers, and support staff. We are navigating through uncharted territory right now. During this difficult time, it is nice to know we can all support each other as a school family.
In this newsletter, you will find links to a variety of resources, online tools, and family friendly activities to help keep learning in the forefront for your child(ren). I have recapped some of the ones shared on the school Facebook page as well as added some new. My hope is that having them all in one spot will make it easier for you to locate them. Many staff have also shared individual learning activities on their classroom pages and Remind/Seesaw apps. Please continue to check those as well.
Please know that the staff at Morton School is here to HELP in anyway possible. You can contact me through my school/principal facebook page or through email as I check those daily. I am concerned we are not reaching all families, so I am also open to any additional suggestions or ideas to ensure all students are supported.
Finally, the staff at Morton wanted to find a way to show our families how much we miss you all. Please enjoy this short video as a token of how much we appreciate and love our school family. Stay safe!
Sincerely,
Proud Principal Quain
Please continue to visit the district website and social media pages for updates/changes.

Mrs. Rankin's Literacy Updates
Hi boys and girls! I love how I have been seeing all of you reading to each other, and even sharing to let other students at Morton hear you! I am so proud of all of you! I wanted to give everyone a few pointers while they are practicing reading at home.
If you get to a word that you do not know there are a few things that you can do
Look at the picture to help you think about what is going on in the story
Look at the word: Can you say the sounds, do you see any parts of the word you know?
Ask yourself: Does this make sense?
Good readers try their best to figure out those words and make sure their reading makes sense. If you are not sure if it “makes sense”, go back and reread that sentence.
Also, I wanted to let you know that I was in contact with our SUPERHEROES about our Academy….and it will be rescheduled! They are all so proud that everyone is continuing to read and work from home!
You are all SUPER STARS and I cannot wait to see you all!
Mrs. Rankin, Literacy Coach

Dear Families,
During this break, please encourage your children to read - take AR tests at home, write in a journal, and practice math facts DAILY. When selecting screen time, we have built a website full of educational resources to use at home and in school. The technology homepage has all the links to our district provided programs: Lexia, Reflex Math, Khan Academy, Moby, Max, Accelerated Reader, etc. For additional STEAM, coding, and typing resources, utilize the grade level tabs.
