Ruby Bridges Elementary- Where the Stars come to shine!
Ruby's Got STEAM...
"Ruby Bridges Elementary (RBE), a collaborative school, works together to develop a dynamic, real-world learning community where all students and adults are valued, respected, and expected to achieve. Through rigorous, school-wide collaboration, we teach students to learn through a standards-based curriculum and beyond with hands-on STEAM lessons. All children gain academic and interpersonal skills necessary to provide them with optimal success in lifelong learning as well as become helpful, contributing members of society. This program helps bring light to the innovative ways we can achieve success at RBE. STEAM lessons and curriculum align to the Common Core State Standards and district benchmarks. It is the mission of RBE to provide a high-quality education for each student and an optimum learning environment that will aid in the development of the whole child through a cooperative effort across the home, school, and community settings. Walk and Roll to School - October 2, 2019
Join us on Wednesday, October 2nd.
An Evening of Literacy Thank You!
Student Drop Off on the Blacktop
In an effort to maximize student learning and promote student independence, I am requesting that parents give hugs and say goodbyes to students on the blacktop at 8:20 a.m. (1st-5th grades). Starting today at Monday Meeting, I will announce these changes and request that parents allow teachers to walk students to their classrooms independently. This will lessen the number of bodies in the corridor and allow our students to quickly begin learning.
This drop off policy will also apply to tardy students. All students that arrive late will arrive to the office where staff will arrange for arrival to class. First through fifth grade parents are no longer dropping students to the classroom as learning is underway. I appreciate your support in advance and know that this will be a significant change for some.
Rainy Day Procedures
7:40 a.m.- All students to the cafeteria/multipurpose room.
8:05 a.m. - Students go directly to classrooms. Students are dismissed from the cafeteria by the adult on duty.

English Language Development-ELD
English Language Development (ELD) is, "Instruction that focuses specifically on helping English learners develop English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The purpose of ELD is to move students along the continuum of language development and bring them, ultimately, to native or near-native fluency in English."
In AUSD, EL (English Learners) received designated language instruction 30 minutes daily, four times weekly. All EL students are assessed annually using the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) .
Ms. Noor helps support ELD for our emerging students.
Mindfulness
Ruby Bridges uses Inner Explorer to support Mindfulness practices. Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens.
"Daily practice teaches kids the practical techniques to appropriately handle difficult emotions such as stress, anxiety, anger and more.”

Life Skill Focus for September: Cooperation
What does cooperation look like?
People who are working as a team and cooperating with each other:
- listen to each other without interrupting
- encourage everyone to join in
- are willing to hear and accept the ideas of others
- are willing to change roles in the group, eg. may be a leader sometimes and a follower at other times
- recognize the skills and strengths of others
- don't compete with each other
- discuss problems calmly
- show respect for each other
- take responsibility for their part of the task
- are willing to work towards the success of the group rather than their own individual success
