The population of Afghanistan is 30.55 million.

Afghanistan's Geography

Afghanistan is located in Asia and is surrounded by Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The high peaks of the Hindu Kush and where extensions of the Pamir Mountains, Karakorum Mountains and the Himalayas. The Anu Dar'ya River is also located in Afghanistan. Some major landmarks in Afghanistan include the Kabul Zoo, Gardens of Babur and the National Museum of Afghanistan. Afghanistan has plenty of rivers, such as the Kabul River, Harirud River and Helmand River.


Afghanistan's government is Islamic Republic. The leader of Afghanistan is Ashraf Ghani, who was chosen in an election. All leaders in Afghanistan are chosen from elections. Citizens must follow the laws and rules of Afghanistan to live a happy life in the country. Results of crime are prosecution or arrest.


Afghanistan is a somewhat poor country with a GDP of 20.31 billion dollars per capita. Their country has a life expectancy rate of only 60.51 years per person. The literacy rate of Afghanistan is only at 38.2 percent, while the birth rate is at 5.14 births per woman. The currency of Afghanistan is called afghan afghani.


The most commonly used languages in Afghanistan would be Pashto and Dari. The official religion of Afghanistan is Islam which is practiced by a whopping 99% of Afghanistan's citizens. The music played in Afghanistan consists of traditional folk songs and ballads. There are plenty of instruments such as santur (a kind of zither), a hand-pumped harmonium, the chang (a plucked mouth harp), and a variety of drums beaten with the palm and fingers.


Afghanistan has a climate of arid to semiarid with cold winters and hot summers. Afghanistan's average temperature is at a cool 59 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average yearly precipitation level of 314 inches.


In 1980, Babrak Karmal installed as ruler, backed by Soviet troops. But opposition intensifies with various mujahideen groups fighting Soviet forces. US, Pakistan, China, Iran and Saudi Arabia supply money and arms to the mujahideen. Also in May of 2015 Taliban representatives and Afghan officials hold informal peace talks in Qatar. Both sides agree to continue the talks at a later date, though the Taliban insist they will not stop fighting until all foreign troops leave the country.


When you compare Afghanistan and the United States one thing you look at would be the religion, as you can see almost 100% of Afghanistan citizens practice the Islamic religion, while in the US most of the citizens practice Christianity.But, both countries mostly worship the same god. Another big comparison you would make would have to be the economy. The United States is one of the richest countries in the world with a GDP of 16.77 trillion, where as the GDP of Afghanistan is only 20.31 billion. The birth rate of the average female citizen in Afghanistan is 5.14 births per woman, where as the US birth rate is much lower, at 1.88 births per woman.
