The Alphabet Tracing Book
From School to Home
Tracing Procedures
Have your child use his/her pointing finger to trace each upper- and lowercase letter in the ABC book, saying the name of the letter each time. Then your child points to the picture and names it. Please do not allow your child to trace with a pencil or marker. The tactile experience is essential for building a memory trace.
Parent Support
Sit next to your child and observe as he/she traces each upper- and lowercase letter.
If the child does not know the name of the letter; say the letter name, child repeats the name of the letter while tracing it in the book with his/her finger.
If the child does not know how to form a letter correctly, lightly hold the child's hand and help him/her trace the letter. Always trace the letter from top to bottom and release child's hand when able to work independently.
