Shout Out to our Westfield ShamRockBotics Club!
The Westfield ShamRockBotics traveled to the Indiana statehouse in Indianapolis as finalists in the Nextech: CSforGood competition. The students had to identify a problem in their community for which they could develop a solution for using computer science. The team decided to tackle the problem of parking in the crowded high school parking lot. Using cameras that would be mounted on light poles and an open source computer vision python library caled OpenCV, the students developed a cell phone app that would direct a student driver to an open spot to cut down on time spent driving around the parking lot in the morning. The students were able to effectively communicate to the panel of judges the design and engineering principles they employed to develop their solution and fielded questions about the detailed operation of their app and considerations such as privacy concerns. In the end ShamRockBotics was selected from the five finalist high schools as the winning project. Each team member received an individual prize and they were able to earn money for the ShamRockBotics upcoming competition season. Way to go ROCKS!

December is SERVICE month!
Westfield High School is excited to focus on monthly themes that are aligned with our Life Ready skills. In addition, these themes match CORE content as well as national/global awareness months.
December’s theme is Service. Our CORE sessions this month will offer enrichment activities encompassing the Service theme. Additionally, there is a monthly form for those students and staff that demonstrate each of our monthly themes. The individuals take the initiative to put others' needs before their own. They are mindful to the physical, emotional and relational needs of others. They fulfill responsibilities and are consistent and reliable.
