Comet Weekly Update
Thursday, December 15th
Hello Leland Comets!
This will be the last weekly update in December, which means break is finally here!
(*play audience cheering sound effect*)
Each member of our community has put in an immense amount of work thus far this year and should pat themselves on the back as they step out of the building Tuesday. We hope your time away is safe and restful. We hope it is full of the simple, joyful moments that when strung together make life so meaningful. See you all again soon, refreshed and renewed in the new year!

Santa's Workshop - A great way to kick off the holidays!
The Junior class raised over $1500 on Saturday by entertaining and helping students to create some festive holiday gifts. The turn-out was extraordinary with students having fun while their parents mingled together. So many positive comments about this annual fun event!
Thanks, Jen Zywicki for organizing this with the Juniors!

A huge thank you for gracious support from LPS parents.

Secondary Library "Book Tastings"!
This week, secondary English students had the opportunity to participate in a Book Tasting event in the high school library. Students “sampled” books from different genres and wrote a “to read” list. Of course, they also were able to check out books for reading on their own! Over 70 books were borrowed by students after attending the book tastings.

We love this weeks library feature "GETTING COAL IN THEIR STOCKINGS" aka books about anti heroes!

Reading Goal Update - 6,489 books checked out so far!
This year we are trying to reach a goal of 20,000 books checked out as a school. As of this week, the media centers have checked out a total of 6,489 books!

Now Adding Student-Authored Books for Checkout!
Both of our LPS media centers are now adding student-authored books for checkout by other students and staff. Publishing completed work is an excellent way to celebrate the end of the writing process. We are excited to support and share creative works by our wonderfully talented students! Students may submit their original books to Mrs. Clark by dropping them off at either library location. Submitted works become property of LPS and are unable to be returned. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Anne Clark at aclark@lelandschool.com.
