Principal's Greeting

Hello CRMS Family,

We've had another great week here at Camp Road. This week we held our first volunteer meeting for the year. We are so thankful for the parents that came out to support our CRMS community. We look forward to getting these volunteers on campus to support our students and teachers!

We currently have an overflowing lost and found. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found for any items they may have misplaced or left behind. Any items that have not been picked up by January 31 will be donated in order to make space in the lost and found.

Jaclyn Rowehl

National Mentoring Month

January is National Mentoring Month! We are very fortunate to have ten mentors matched up with ten of our students. They provide support, encouragement, and assistance to their mentees during weekly visits to our campus. Our students really look forward to this time with their mentors! We also have four tutors from Bishop Gadsden trained by the Be A Mentor program who provide brief tutorial sessions to fourteen of our students on Fridays during FLEX Study Hall. We are grateful for these caring individuals who volunteer their time to help out at Camp Road Middle School!

7th grade Bingo Blast Fundraiser

It's time for some 7th-grade Bingo fun after school Friday, Feb. 10, 3:45 - 5:15 pm, in the cafeteria. This event is a fundraiser for our author visit by Varian Johnson March 1. Tickets cost $10.00 and cover ten games of Bingo, door prize drawings, and a hot dog meal. Tickets will be sold in the library, Monday, Feb. 6 - Thursday, Feb. 9. Limited to the first 120 tickets sold.

We want to make as much profit as possible, so we are asking our CRMS families to consider donating items to the event. Use this Signup Genius form if you can help.

Upcoming Author Event: Varian Johnson

We were blessed with a pop-in visit from Kwame Alexander, an amazing writer and presenter.

But all year long, we have booked, scheduled, and fundraised for our March 1 visit from Varian Johnson. He will spend the entire school day with us, presenting to all three grade levels, hosting a workshop, and signing copies of his books.

How did Mrs. Bouton, decide to host this particular author?

  • His graphic novel, Twins, is one of the 20 books on this year’s SCASL top books for SC middle schoolers

  • He is a SC native, who grew up in Florence.

  • He writes primarily for middle school students, and he appeals to a wide range of readers

We hope students will be inspired to read his books, and we are promoting them in the library. Should you be interested in having Varian Johnson sign a book, you can have your student bring in a book you already own or take advantage of this preorder form.

Second Step at CRMS

The Second Step Middle School digital program is a research-based, Tier 1 SEL program for Grades 6 through 8. The classroom-based lessons and activities are designed to strengthen students’ social-emotional skills, such as managing strong emotions, setting and working toward goals, and building strong friendships while avoiding or de-escalating social conflicts with their peers.

All grades are working on: Unit 3: Thoughts, Emotions & Decisions

Students learn how to recognize strong emotions and unhelpful thoughts, and they learn to apply strategies for managing their emotions and reducing stress. These objectives are facilitated in weekly lessons, community circles and classroom challenges.

Check Out, is a free website for parents and their teens created by the makers of Second Step® Middle School. It is a great resource for middle school families by providing expert advice and practical tools for dealing with real parent-teen issues.
