The Bear Necessities
James L. Collins Catholic School
From the Desk of Mrs. Hoyer
I look forward to seeing parents tomorrow for parent/teacher conferences and grandparents next week as we celebrate Grandparents Day on Wednesday, October 27th from 12-3pm. We have lots of fun activities planned including Trunk or Treat, BINGO, and pumpkin decorating. The Book Fair will also be open, and grandparents will be able to take a picture with their grandchildren while they wait to go shopping.
In addition to Grandparents Day, there will be many other activities next week including Red Ribbon week and multiple dress days such as Monday when students are allowed to dress in western wear to “kick off” the Wild West Book Fair. Pay special attention to the Upcoming Events section at the bottom of this newsletter for all the details.
Based on feedback received from parents and teachers, you can expect to see some changes related to grading beginning this quarter. The purpose of these changes is to better communicate with you regarding your child’s grades. One improvement you can expect to see beginning this quarter is letter codes to indicate why a grade isn’t displayed for an assignment, for example, E for Excused or A for Absent. A grade of 0 will be calculated in the overall grade for missing (M) or incomplete (I) work until it is completed. Other codes will not impact the overall grade.
Another improvement that will help you work with your child to ensure they are finishing and turning in assignments is auto-generated emails. You will receive an email via RenWeb for any grade below 70 entered prior to 5pm that day.
As COVID conditions improve and you want to get more involved, please know that you must have completed the Safe Environment process. This process takes about two weeks to complete for new parents. Those who have already completed it and are up for renewal, it only takes a few minutes to finish the update. Please ensure you are eligible to participate in school events including homeroom parties by meeting this requirement. Don’t delay...act today!
Canned Food Drive
Many thanks to all of your generous support of this service project! You may continue to send items this week and next. They will be sent to the church for distribution to families in need.
Little Flower Girls Club
Our Little Flower Girls Club had their first meeting on Wednesday in Mrs. Gibb's classroom. They painted sunflowers and had a discussion about virtues. Their focus this week was Faith.

PTC Corner
Thank you everyone who has sent items or volunteered for Grandparents Day!
We still need some helpers and materials for a couple activities. Purchases and time helping at the school both count towards service hours. Contact ptc@collinscatholicschool.org if you can help!
Remember, each family is responsible for completing 25 hours before the end of the school year. See the video at this link for instructions on how to log your service hours
You can volunteer for our upcoming golf tournament, to get prizes for our prize calendar in March, to assist at our school's preview days.
The fun continues on next Friday with Halloween parties during which students will have the opportunity to enjoy KONA Ice.
