Annual Jagtastic Silent Auction
Please remember that this fundraiser is part of the funding we need to pay for Grand Nationals! Basically, we really need to pay ourselves back, and your participation is key!
PSL's have sent the Section Basket information. Each section of the band has a different theme for their basket.
PSL's will need to have all donations collected by TOMORROW, Monday, November 28th, so that they know what I need to fill in and to give enough time to put the basket together.
You can contact your PSL and they will meet you to pick up your donation, or you can send it with your student to the JHS band hall labeled with Student name, (Enter Section) basket, ATTN: (Enter Your Name) and they will pick it up there.
You may also be able to Venmo your PSL and they can purchase items for you. (Check with your PSL about this option! ) If you choose to Venmo, make sure you put that it’s for the band auction!

Support Akins Band
From the Akins Band Boosters:
We are Terry and Amy Ishee, the Akins Band Booster Co-Presidents, and we'd like to introduce ourselves to you. We have a daughter who is a junior and Co-Captain of the Drumline, and we have been volunteering as band parents since she started as a freshman during the pandemic, doing what we can to build the band back up from that. I don't have to tell you that made quite an impact on all of our school programs!
We'd also like to invite you and your band parents to a fun night of Bingo, Raffles, and Fundraising. We have enjoyed being able to see your marching shows and share space with you at competitions! Due to the building up of South Austin and beyond, many of our students have crossed paths in Elementary and Middle School, so sometimes it feels like old friends getting together. Kids can attend if their parents do, so it's some good family fun!
On December 16, we are hosting this Bingo and Raffle Fundraising event at our Akins Band Hall, and our two main goals are fundraising and fun. We are having a bit of a struggle building back our funds and volunteers since COVID, and we'd love some help from fellow band folks. We would love to have your band parents join us, and we want to show our students and community that bands can compete, but still support each other. Attached is the flyer for you to share around, and here is the link to buy tickets: tinyurl.com/AEBbingo.

December 16
From the Director
We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! We are thankful for everyone who is a part of our Jaguar Band family and the happiness and joy they bring to our group! Let’s look forward to what is rapidly approaching as we work our way back into a weekly schedule.
This week we have two major events! The first is the TMEA District/Region Auditions. The auditions will be held at Akins High School Thursday, Dec 1, and Saturday, December 3. This week the host of the auditions will determine which instruments perform on Thursday, which perform on Saturday and if there are any instruments that audition on both days. That schedule will be distributed no later than Tuesday. The students signed up for these auditions earlier in the fall and know who they are. Round trip transportation will be provided for this event on both Thursday and Saturday.
Saturday is also the Budafest Lighted Parade. The Jaguar Band will once again be participating in this annual event! Remember that this is a lighted parade and “YES” it is perfectly acceptable to have lights on your instrument! We are scheduled to receive our lineup number, location and arrival time this week and will immediately push out this information. Due to logistics with parking buses and equipment, transportation for this event will NOT be provided. We will repeat the same process we used last year. We will have a truck bring the large instruments such as sousaphones and percussion. Students will be responsible for their own transportation as well as their instrument. The lineup location is in the parking lot just past MudBugs Restaurant, the parade conclusion location is at the Buda Park near the Amphitheater. Again, once we receive the detailed information with our exact staging number we will email everyone. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: there will be some students who are auditioning for the TMEA Region auditions on Saturday and will need to be prepared to have a quick turnaround from the time we arrive back at Johnson and then getting to the parade lineup. Because there is no scheduled time for the auditions to end we cannot provide specific times in advance. However, we will use Remind to send out updates regarding the progress of the auditions as they are wrapping up and when the buses are rolling headed back to JHS. There should be plenty of time between the conclusion of the auditions and the start of the parade but those students auditioning on Saturday need to be aware that both events are on the same day and time is limited.
The Johnson HS Winter Guards are heading into their competitive season and will begin their rehearsal schedule ASAP. Anyone who is not already involved in with our Guard program or has FRIENDS who are not in band but are interested in becoming a member and joining our extended family should see Mr. Washington or Mr. Duffy.
Not this week, but rapidly approaching, is the JHS Jaguar Band Christmas Concert! December 13 is the date! Since the percussion students are in a different class period during the school day, each individual band may schedule a rehearsal outside of the school day in order to allow the percussion and band to play together in preparation for this event. You should hear from your child’s band director if and when they schedule a rehearsal.
Again, we hope everyone had a Wonderful Thanksgiving Break. Now, back to our crazy, non-stop schedule of excitement and music! Never forget that today and everyday “it’s a great day to be a Jaguar!”
The Beat--Percussion News
Region band auditions are also taking place this week. The first round of percussion auditions will be held on Thursday after school. The second round, if students advance, will take place on Saturday.
Saturday night is the Buda Fest lighted parade. This was a blast last year! Front ensemble members are not required to participate in the parade but can play cymbals if they like.
Looking forward to a busy week!

Color Guard Updates...now time for Winter Guard!
ICYMI -- Winter Guard IS Color Guard! If your student is in "color guard" then they are in "winter guard". For Winter Guard season, Color Guard is separated into Varsity and JV teams based on ability and skill. Winter Guard competitions take place indoors. Check out last year's JV and Varsity "Winter Guard" performances on our YouTube channel. Last season, Varsity earned 1st place and JV earned 3rd place at the TCGC State competition! Varsity placed 6th in the nation at the WGI World Championship!
As is the case during marching band season, attendance at practices and competitions is mandatory.
Here is the schedule of practices and competitions. Please make sure to make arrangements in advance. These dates have now been added to the band calendar!
There will be a MANDATORY meeting for ALL Winter Guard Parents and Students on
Monday, December 12
6 - 7:30pm @ JHS Band Hall
*Items to be covered include how winter guard works, winter guard fee ($200) and what it covers, student and parent expectations, and answer any questions you may have! We will also discuss Winter Guard snack sign-ups, meal plans, and floor crew!
