Goals!
What we know about success is that setting goal is integral! If you think about it, we do it in many aspects of our lives - maybe it is goal to go back to school, change careers, complete a 5K, create something new, etc. Students and learning work the same way!
John Hattie, well known for his various meta-analyses of educational research, shares that Student Self-Efficacy (beliefs, dispositions, attitudes) produces an effect size of .92 on student achievement. That is important to know because when an effect size is over .40, it increases student achievement. Two additional important effect sizes to understand are Student Effort (.77) and Student Evaluation and Reflection (.75). All three of these pieces are a part of student goal setting, which is a focus in all of our classrooms across Magee. Students are setting goals across curriculuar areas as well.
You can see the work your child is doing related to goal setting, reflection and evaluation by checking out their Seesaw Journal or asking them what they are working on!

Tuesday Tours
Each school day, we open our doors to a community of adults and young people to continue our work to preparing students to be ready academically, personally, and as citizens. We are proud of the work we are doing and beginning next week, we want to provide our parents a unique opportunity to learn more of the details of how that happens.
Beginning October 30, we will begin hosting the first in a series of Tuesday Tour Days.
A Tour Day agenda will be the following:
Greeting
Visit Magee classrooms and learning spaces (20-30 minutes)
Debriefing and Discussion (20-30 minutes)
Your tour will be hosted by Mrs. Sterner. Depending on the learning interests and questions of the group, we will visit a few different places during that portion of the morning.
Interested in joining us? Please complete this short survey to provide us more details about you and what you’d like to learn on your visit. We will limit the number of parents participating on any one tour in order to minimize the disruption of the tours to our students’ learning.
See you soon - here at school!

Parent Resources
In addition, PRN is run by all volunteers. If you are looking for a way to be involved, it would be wonderful to have Magee represented in the KM PRN! For more information, click HERE.
A resource from the University of Wisconsin-Extension has a series of articles for parents and educators. While they all have value, one was of particular interest as it connects to students setting goals. Click HERE to read "Small Steps, Big Goals".
