Year 8 Camp Info Slides Below - Week 8, Term 4

Clothing for Camp

It can be hard to dry clothes while camping, so take spare clothes and choose quick drying fabrics (e.g. wool, polypropylene, activewear fabrics). Clothing will get dirty so students will need spares of everything and plastic bags for dirty clothes.

Rain and cold weather are common at any time of year. Packing plenty of warm and waterproof clothing will help you stay cosy while camping. This should include:

  • warm under layers, top and bottom

  • warm mid-layers

  • a waterproof, windproof raincoat with a hood

  • swimming gear

  • warm night clothes/clothing to sleep in.

  • 4-5 changes of shorts, t-shirts, underwear

  • Sweatshirt and long pants for evening

Avoid sunburn by packing a sunhat and sunglasses.

Bring firm, comfortable footwear as campsites often have uneven ground and nearby walking tracks. Firm, comfortable footwear includes tramping boots or sneakers. Pack jandals for the showers and old shoes to wear on mud slide. Aqua socks are great.

Personal Equipment for Camp

  • Toiletries, including insect repellent, sunscreen, and personal medication, for example, antihistamine for allergy to wasp stings.

  • Sleeping bag and pillow case

  • First aid kit

  • Head torch/flashlight and spare batteries

  • Rubbish bag – may be used as a coverall in wet weather

  • 2 Towels

  • Pegs

  • 2 packets of muesli bars, 2 x packet of biscuits to share. These will be collected in on first day.

  • NO ELECTRONICS OR PHONES ON CAMP!

Enviro Club

These last few weeks of 2022 we have been hard at work getting our school gardens and orchard ready for summer. We have broken ground on a large new vegetable garden, harvested lettuces and broad beans from the winter garden and greenhouse, and started a large amount of summer seedlings.

We also added some more citrus trees to our orchard, donated by Wairau Bunnings, and planted some additional berry bushes and stonefruit trees around our play areas.

We're also looking forward to our upcoming Mini Enviro Fair and we hope you can join us to celebrate our efforts. We will be selling some seedlings, produce, and recycled & environmentally friendly products.

We'll see you there in the last week of term, Tuesday 13 December!
