Kudos!

Much gratitude to our SWAT team and those helping out with benchmark assessments! Thanks to all for your understanding of our technology challenges and delays.

Thanks so much for your flexibility regarding our office staff transitions. Your support has been amazing!

Thank you to Rebekah, Cheryl, and Jill for participating in our PTO meeting this week. And a special thank you goes out to Cheryl for helping to organize assemblies and to Katie and Maggie for working on spirit wear.

Parents want and need to know what's going on with their children at school. You've done an amazing job with communication so far this year. Your Smores and other newsletters are professional and packed with pertinent information for parents. Thank you!

Reading and Writing Reminders

READING

  • Purposefully post the Common Core aligned, student-friendly learning target every day
  • If your lessons are running over 15-20 minutes, be sure to stop and provide time for students to read each day
  • Continue to guide students to make book selections at their independent reading level (if you need more books at a given level, see Melissa or Liz)
  • Continue to build reading stamina with your students each day

WRITING

  • Purposefully post the Common Core aligned, student-friendly learning target every day
  • Share exemplar piece with students (found in Writing Pathways book)
  • Post writing checklist for students to see (consider highlighting how the daily mini lesson ties to the checklist)
  • Provide students with a copy of the checklist so they can self-assess their progress
  • Continue to build stamina for writing with your students each day

Data Reviews

Data reviews are next week. Please review your data prior to your scheduled data review. Our purpose for next week's data reviews is to determine which students require targeted intervention (whether they are not meeting or if they are exceeding standards). We'll provide reminders about the Instructional Planning Forms as well.

Attention 3rd - 6th Grade Teachers

Please see this important message from Greg (below). Please email me to let me know when you've completed this task.

As part of our focus on Social Emotional Learning, we will be collecting student survey information on a variety of topics throughout the year.

The first Social Emotional Learning survey, measuring students Emotional Regulation and Social-Awareness will open from September 12th through September 23rd. All District 68 third through eighth grade students are required to participate.

Proctor instructions and a script for administering the questionnaire are attached (to the email sent Friday).

Please note: student's will need a Chromebook and their "Other ID" number from Skyward. The "Other ID" is different from their Student Information System (SIS) ID.

Thank you for taking the time to administer this assessment.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

S'more Smores!

Notes and Reminders

  • Please remember to set up your goal-setting/self-reflection meeting with me. I think in prior communication I stated that our meeting needs to be completed by October 1st. I was wrong. We have until October 15th to meet for your self-reflection. :)
  • Please use your mid-day collaboration period for collaboration purposes only.
  • I challenge you to continue to fill a colleague's bucket this week.
