The Japanese Flag

History
The first Japanese flag was documented in 701. The flag that is now representing Japan, became official on August 3rd, 1999.
Representation
The flag represents the beautiful Japanese ocean. The big red dot in the middle of the flag represents the sun. The flag is officially called Nisshōki which means "sun-mark flag" (日章旗). The flag is more commonly known as Hinomaru which means "circle of the sun" (日章旗)
The Rising Sun Flag
This flag represents the rising of the sun and was adopted in 1870 as the national flag.

The flag of Japan isn't white and red, it's white and Crimson. Crimson is a type of red but with an orange color to it.
