North Carolina Relief Maps
Mr. Ross is very proud of his students who made relief maps! They were all great! They will be on display in the media center for the next few weeks.
Native American Tribes of North Carolina Paper Slide Videos
The Paper Slide video projects that we completed in Social Studies were all fantastic! A special thank you to our media center coordinator Mrs. Wyant for her enormous help with the entire project! Click the links below to see the videos.
Halloween
Students are welcome to wear Halloween costumes to school on Halloween Day.
The following guidelines set by administration must be followed.
- Students must come to school dressed in their costume already. Hairspray, makeup, etc... should be taken care of prior to coming to school.
- Costumes may not have parts that interfere with learning. This means no masks or costumes that restrict movement or vision, cause problems on the bus with sitting or visibility for the driver, prevent sitting at desks, or prevent participation in PE. They must not obstruct movement in the hallways. Students must wear shoes and should not wear a mask.
- Costumes may not be violent or suggestive. They should not be insulting to a particular ethnicity, religion, or gender.
- Costumes may not promote violence or have accessories or props that could be used as a weapon.
- Send an email with a favorite joke to your child's homeroom teacher by Monday to earn your child a homework pass. Who knows, if you make us laugh we may even give your child two!
What Will We Be Learning This Week?
Math
We will continue our study of Cluster 3: Understanding Place Value. Specifically, we will be writing numbers in different forms: Standard Form, Word Form, Expanded Form and Place Value Form. We will be comparing numbers using the greater and less than signs and adding/subtracting numbers using place value understanding.
Science
We will continue our discussion of Animals. We will be learning about Endangered Species, what is causing these animals to become endangered, and what some nations are doing to protect them.
Language Arts
We will be reading the novel Soft Rain for the next few weeks. It is a wonderful Historical Fiction story centered around the Cherokee Trail of Tears. This novel will cover both Language Arts and Social Studies instruction.
Please make sure that your child is bringing home their Words Their Way Notebooks with their spelling homework each night. I try to give time each day in class to work on their spelling homework but even if your child finishes at school I am not able to check their work to see if they are making mistakes or not. Thank you for your help with this!
Social Studies
We will not have any NC Studies Weekly assignments until we finish reading Soft Rain (see above). Assignments that we complete for Soft Rain will count as grades in both Language Arts and Social Studies.
