Operating Levy Referendum/School Board Election
Operating Levy Referendum/School Board Election
Tuesday, November 7, 2017, is election day. If you would like to vote early, absentee voting is available at the District Office, 10 Civic Center Plaza, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents of Mankato Area Public Schools will vote on an Operating Levy and the election of three School Board members.
As a result of our Operating Levy expiring on June 30, 2018, our School Board has proposed to increase its referendum revenue authority. This proposed authorization would include an increase of $365 per pupil and would increase each year by the rate of inflation and be applicable for ten years beginning with taxes payable in 2018.
The most common question we hear is, “What will the money be used for?” The dollars go to people, programs and day-to-day operations. Here is a link to our Q & A article which will help answer that question. This is an exciting time for our growing school community. Funding will help us to continue our work and provide the resources we need for the education of each child, retaining and recruiting staff and our daily costs.
Please visit the District website www.isd77.org under “quick links” where you will find more information about the operating levy, a tax impact calculator for your property, and candidate information.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact the District Office at 507-387-1868 or email maps@isd77.k12.mn.us.

ART HAPPENINGS
The art room has been a busy place! Most of our classes are finishing up their first big project for the year and art is being hung for conferences. This year I am really trying to give the students as much free choice in their projects as possible, and they are showing me how wonderfully creative they are. If you would like a chance to keep up with what is going on in the art room, I have started an Instagram account. I try to post at least once a week. The account name is @hoover.huskys.art, follow along and see what we’re up to!

Hoover PE Happenings
October and November bring many exciting activities in Physical Education class at Hoover! In October, students participated in a variety of activities that worked on hand/eye coordination, gross motor skills, and building physical fitness. Dance Dance Revolution, striking activities, and teamwork building are just a few of the fun lessons planned for November.
Progress reports and conferences are also in November. We would love to visit with families about your student’s progress in PE. Please stop by the gym office if you have time during conferences. Demonstrating appropriate behavior in PE is something every student works on during class. Also, every grade level focuses on a specific skill for the fall. Those skills are listed below.
Kindergarten- Moving safely with others.
1st Grade- Working safely by myself and with a partner.
2nd Grade- Demonstrating conflict resolution techniques.
3rd Grade- Understanding how to check pulse at rest and during activity.
4th Grade- Understanding the concepts of physical fitness and Healthy Fitness Zones.
5th Grade- Demonstrating and understanding the cooperative learning process.
With the weather changing and snow coming, please remember to leave a pair of tennis shoes at school for PE days. Also, in the past Jump Rope for Heart has been in December at Hoover. Jump Rope for Heart will now be in February. Be on the lookout for more information after winter break.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call the PE office. Have a safe and active November!
