Celebrating Summer Success

Inspiring learning

A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to our superstar worship sessions to hear about all the children's fantastic learning. During worship we announced our summer superstars who have demonstrated fantastic attitudes to all their learning (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pictured above).

Market Stall

Years 2 and 3 had an amazing day on Thursday! They sold their own home made products on a Ripon market stall. Year 2 had designed all the Ndebele art inspired tea towels as part of their topic this term 'Why go to Africa?'. A special thank you to all the lovely people who sewed the hems of the tea towels.

Year 3's topic has asked, 'Can we make a healthy sandwich?'. Yes they can! With bread made fresh in the morning by Morrisons especially for us, and salad stuff from the garden the children have been tending, a great array of sandwiches was on offer for the patrons of the market (which may well have included a few extra parents, family members and friends this week!).

Both year groups more than covered the costs of their materials/ingredients and hiring the market stall, which is an added bonus to this wonderful experience. Thank you to all staff members and helpers and especially the children, who were a real credit to the school.

Fabulous Gardening in Early Years

The children in Nursery and Reception have been developing green fingers. Over the summer they have grown a number of plants and vegetables in their garden area. They have learnt about what plants need to survive and have used the carrots that they have grown to make yummy carrot cake!

Creating amazing Habitats

The children in Year 2 have been working on a project to create fabulous habitat models. The children have excelled in using their imaginations and creative skills to build fantastic models of forests, jungles, oceans and the Arctic. The children had really thought about the ways that they could show the different features with some models including animals, different levels and even lighting.

Well done Year 2!

Hackfall Woods

Our Reception children had their final visit of the year to Hackfall Woods. They have now experienced every season in the woods. For a change, they visited over lunch time this week and enjoyed the highlight of any summer walk, a picnic by the river.

Back to Nature

Our Year 2 children patiently watched and waited during the early stages of the life cycle, then made sure the caterpillars received enough food before yet more patience was required. It was a happy day on Friday when the first butterfly emerged, followed by more over the weekend. On Tuesday the cycle was complete when the butterflies were released into the wild.

Inter-School Football

Well done to our team made up of children chosen from Years 5 and 6 for winning their football match on Monday after school, though we hope it was the taking part which was more important to them!

Reading Leaders

Congratulations to the Turner brothers who both became Reading Leaders this week. Oliver reviewed a non-fiction book by Lucy M George 'Busy People: Police Officer' and Scott loved 'The Diary of a Wimpy Kid'.

Thank you again

The final figure for our sponsored bounce was a massive and generous £933. Thank you so much, with the added funds from the cake stall, this means we are able to send £320 to each of the three charities chosen by our spiritual ambassadors, YMCA Ripon, Youth for Christ and Christian Aid.

National Trust Survey

We have sent home a survey on behalf of the National Trust. If you could return it to school by Tuesday (17th July) it would be much appreciated. The National Trust are hoping to target a substantial amount of National Lottery funds into the local area so that families can enjoy more of the Skell Valley beyond Fountains Abbey. This is your chance to have your say, please take it!
