Winter Reminders
Please note that the building does not open until the first bus arrives, approximately 8:20. Students dropped off before this time will not be allowed to enter the building.
We do our best to have our students out for recess every day even if it is only for 10-15 minutes. Please be sure your children come prepared with coats, hats and mittens (labeled with their names).
School Closings and Early Dismissals
With the winter months ahead of us, I would like to remind you of the following:
- In case of inclement weather situations, the Central Bucks School District may decide to close the schools, delay the beginning of the school day - or dismiss students early.
- Please make sure that you are set up your mobile phone to receive text messages for these closings, delayed openings and early dismissals. You will only receive these text messages if you have subscribed to receive the messages.
- If you have not set up your phone to receive text messages from CB, please follow these directions:
- Ensure your school has your correct cell phone number on file. Parents can review the cell phone on file in their demographic information on the Parent Portal under Family>Family Members.
- You can add or change your cell phone number in the parent portal or by calling your child's school. After you changed/added your cell phone number, please wait at least 24 hours before trying to join.
- From your cell phone, text the word Join to the number 56360. If our messaging system finds a match for your number in its database, you will receive a confirmation message thanking you for joining School Alerts. At any time, you can unsubscribe by texting Stop to 56360.
We also recommend that you use one of the following media to keep up with the possibilities of school closings and early dismissals:
- The Central Bucks School District webpage at www.cbsd.org.
- The Central Bucks School District newsline at 267-893-2000 extension 6.
- Channel 69 (Channel 15 on Suburban Cable) and public Channels 3, 6, 10 and 29 run an alphabetical list of snow closings and late starts across the bottom of the screen.
- Radio stations KYW – Philadelphia (1060 AM) and WNPV – Lansdale (1440 AM). CB’s school closing number is 755. The closing number for the Central Bucks Community School is 779. Station BEB (B-101) – Philadelphia (101.1 FM) offers special snow closing phone lines.
Please be advised that only the Superintendent’s office – and not the individual principals – can declare a weather emergency in the Central Bucks School District.
Central Bucks, Quakertown Shine Among Title 1 Schools
Several area schools with low-income students have been named "Distinguished Schools" by the state for being among the top 5% of Title 1 schools in a number of categories.
Central Bucks, with Doyle, Groveland and Warwick elementary schools, .... led the way in Bucks County with three schools each generating high achievement and significant progress on standardized tests. ....
Title 1 is a federally funded program that provides financial assistance to improve educational opportunities for low-income students.
"Any time that one of your schools is recognized for high academic achievement and significantly closing the achievement gaps, that's always a good sign that the curriculum you have in place is working," said Central Bucks Superintendent John Kopicki, who praised the efforts of teachers, administrators, parents and their students. "It takes a lot of people to pull a train in the right direction."

Fifth and Sixth Graders to Meet Author Jerry Spinelli
On Tuesday, January 17th, students in grades 5 and 6 will travel to Warwick Elementary school to meet with Newbery Medal winning author Jerry Spinelli. Jerry’s newest book, The Warden’s Daughter, is set to be published in early January. His books are always popular in our library—especially Stargirl, Maniac Magee, and Wringer.
Jerry will sign books during our visit and order forms are available now. All orders must be turned in to Mrs. Herwig in the library by Wednesday, December 21st.
A special thank you to our friend Miss Ellen Mager at Booktenders' for bringing this special opportunity to our students.
