This Week at AES
9/5 - 9/9
Important Info
- Wednesday we will have Buster the Bus: K-2 will report to the gym around 9 (please wait to be called). 3rd, 4th, and 5th will report to the bus door. We will then assign you a bus. Once K-2 finishes in the gym, you will head to the bus door.
- Please make sure to review the behavior plan. Just a few reminders: When a student is on Yellow, please contact their parents and let them talk to their students. Please send students to the office once they earn their 3rd mark or clip down to red. If you wait until the end of the day it makes it very difficult for us to talk with each student.
- Audubon's Behavior Plan can be found here
- We will have a Lockdown Drill on Wednesday, September 7th at 1:00. Please walk your students through how to conduct a Lockdown to prepare them for this drill.

The Power of Manipulatives
The Power of Mindset
I know last year we talked a little about Growth and Fixed Mindset. That Fixed Mindset exists in all of us. Maybe it lives in your ability to do mathematics or maybe you are like me and it has set up shop in the land of dance.
That Fixed Mindset tugs at us constantly telling us that we cannot do something, that we will look stupid, or that we are dumb. Despite that constant pull, we all can find a time that we were able to do something that we previously could not. Our students suffer with the same pull of the Fixed Mindset, but sadly many of them do not possess the experiences/memories of when they overcame the "Can't."
I believe part of our job is to help foster a Growth Mindset in all of our students. We need to help them realize that with Hard Work, Persistence, and a drive to Persevere they can accomplish so much. We are so blessed with the opportunities to coach them and help them realize that they "Can".
We are also so fortunate to get to model that mindset for them. Over this long weekend, I encourage you to tackle something that you "can't" do. Watch a YouTube Video, take a class, or just give something a try. Turn your can't into a can.
