Tyler's Tech Tips

September 2017

Kahoot Jumble, AWW App, Math Apps, and IOS 11

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year!

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Tyler Leipprandt. This is my fourth year as the Instructional Technology Consultant at the Huron ISD. My goal is to help educators become more proficient in the area of using technology in the classroom.

I would love to help you on this journey to becoming more tech savvy in your classroom. Here are a variety of services I offer that may help you accomplish that:

  • I can do a guest lesson in your classroom demonstrating a tech tool
  • I can meet with you on your prep, lunch, or before/after school
  • I can provide you with a list of tools that you can use in your classroom
  • I am always open for collaboration through email, social media, phone calls, or face-to-face
  • I publish monthly newsletters (like this one) to inform you of new tools you may want to try out.
  • I can do some research for you on your quest to find the right tech tool

I regularly visit each Huron County district and you should always get a sign-up sheet emailed to you before I visit your school. If you are in need of any instructional tech help, please sign-up on that sheet. If you need assistance and I am not scheduled to be in your district, please get a hold of me and I will do my best to help out. You may email me at tylerl@huronisd.org or call my office phone at 989-269-3494.

Have a great year and I am looking forward to working with you!

It's Here! The new IOS 11

"It came, it finally came!" I feel like Sid from the Toy Story movie when his rocket arrived. Anyways, the new IOS 11 update has been talked about for a while now as one of the most drastic IOS releases. It came out on 9/19/17 at 1 pm, and I jumped on the download as fast as I could. Many people are afraid of all the bugs it may have, but it has been smooth sailing so far. Because this is such a huge update, I wanted to take a few moments and give you some new features IOS 11 has.

iPad Updates:

  • Customizable notification screen
  • New app docking station which allows more apps to be placed across the bottom of the iPad. Most recent apps will show up here as well.
  • The ability to screen record your device and save it to your camera roll.
  • Options to draw over screenshots and save/delete them.
  • Turn any web page into a PDF using Safari and draw on it.
  • Annotate on PDFs without using any app.
  • Download PDF or other files directly to the new "Files" app.
  • Multitasking with split view and slide overview.
  • The iPad camera will read QR codes without using a separate app.
  • Scan documents using the notes app.

There are many more updates which have been made, but I feel these ones have done a lot to make your workflow easier. Talk to your IT department to see their plan on rolling out this new update to your Apple devices.
