Counseling with Ms. Lundy
Thank you to our Career Day Speakers and Careers on Wheels volunteers! We had a blast learning all about your careers!
Music with Mr. DeStefano and Mrs. A. Williams
We have moved into our next music unit, which is all about movement and expression. Students will be learning folk dances, creating their own movements to interpret music they hear and learning how music can express different emotions.
Music In Our Schools Month
Every year, March is designated as Music In Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). We are lucky to have such strong support for the music program at CCES and we will be shining a spotlight on music next month. One way we will be celebrating MIOSM is through many CCES music performances:
- March 6th - join our Kindergarten students as they give their annual performance of the Bremen Town Musicians.
- March 10th - ten of our CCES Chorus students will be participating in the Fulton County Choral Clinic at Dolvin Elementary School. They will rotate through sessions with three FCS music teachers, then put on a concert at 2:30 PM.
- March 18th - CCES Orff Ensemble students will be participating in Play the Recorder Day. This event, hosted by the Atlanta Recorder Society, features student and adult recorder players performing for each other. The concert will take place from 3-5 PM at Church of the New Covenant in Doraville.
- March 24th - come support our CCES Chorus students as they sing the National Anthem at the GA Swarm lacrosse game at Infinite Energy Center. Join us in the CCES cheering session and cheer on the world champion team.
- March 27th - join our Third Grade students as they present their concert "All the Colors." Each class will represent a color of the rainbow through singing, playing instruments and movement.
Art with Mrs. Steffensen and Mrs. S. Miller
Sharing our Art with the community is the big news in Art this month. Student artwork such as the one pictured here will soon be on the way to our State Legislators’ offices, as well as the office of the Mayor of Milton. In addition, the artworks below will be part of the Capitol Art Exhibit at our State Capitol in Atlanta. This exhibit, sponsored by the Georgia Art Education Association in cooperation with the Secretary of State, is part of Youth Art Month. Art teachers across the nation celebrate Youth Art Month each year in March. How fitting that our theme this year is “Building Community Through Art”. We are proud to include CCES Artists!
Physical Education with Mr. Abel and Mr. Sylvester
February is healthy hart month. We are thrilled to be supporting the American Heart Association to help teach our students and families how to take care of their hearts through Jump Rope for Heart.
JRFH is a fun event that encourages community service and is educational. Our students are learning jump rope skills while raising money to fund lifesaving research and educational programs. Heart disease and stroke are the number one and three deadliest diseases in our country.
Here are some tips to be Heart Healthy:
- Be active: students need 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous activity a day.
- Choose water over sugary drinks.
- Live tobacco free.
- Be aware of sodium: compare nutrition labels and consume lower sodium foods.
- Eat color foods: try to get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
