Wear Red for Ed on Tuesday, April 30th!
To support our teachers in their Day of Action on May 1st, we suggest students wear red on Tuesday, April 30th. Let's turn our school Red for Ed!
Reminder: Schools will be closed on Wednesday, May 1st so teachers may attend the Day for Action and Rally for Public Education in Raleigh.
Field Day Volunteers
Field Days are coming up soon:
Tracks 1 and 2 on May 6 (rain date May 7)
Tracks 3 and 4 on May 13 (rain date May 14).
We need volunteers! You should have received a sign-up from your student's teacher. If you can help, please let your student's classroom teacher know which day and shift (morning or afternoon) you can help.
Thank you so much for helping Coach Roberts and our teachers make Field Day a fun and healthy event for our students!
Walk/Bike to School Wednesday, May 8
Reminder, May's Walk to School day has been moved to May 8 and it’s your choice whether you Bike or Walk to School!!
When you arrive to OCE, we will have lots of community helpers on hand: Apex PD’s bike officers, Apex Fire Department, and Jenna Shouse from the Town of Apex planning department will all join us!
Our friends from The Bicycle Chain store will check helmets, pump tires, and do mini-checkups for bikes.
Remember: all Bikers must wear a helmet and label it with their name! We have plenty of bike racks at OCE, so bring a lock if your bike will stay onsite during the school day.
Carnival Ticket Pre-Sales and Volunteers Needed
The OCE Spring Carnival is a family friendly event for OCE families and the surrounding community. Come enjoy games, bounce houses, food trucks, vendors, and more!!!

NEW THIS YEAR - The Teacher Experience Raffle!!
Teachers and staff are offering a variety of fun experiences you can try to win for your child - splatter art with Ms. Brockway, an Escape Room with Ms. Ferreira, and various lunch and game opportunities with individual grade teachers. Check out the full list of experiences here. You can preorder your raffle tickets as well as your game tickets here.
Finally, WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!! Please consider volunteering to help! The carnival games and concessions are all set up between the end of the school day at 3:45 p.m. and the start of the carnival at 5 p.m.! That's a tight turnaround, but many hands makes for quick and light work. Take a look at the sign-up and see if there is a job that fits your schedule - we'd love the help!
Sign up to volunteer here!
Staff Appreciation Help Needed: Ice Cream Social
Click the sign-up here to send in an item or two to make this day delicious for our teachers! Items due to the school by Wednesday, May 8th (unless otherwise indicated).
WCPSS Panorama Family Survey
WCPSS is conducting the Panorama Family Survey again this school year. The window for survey completion ends on Friday, May 3. This survey is important to our continued work around family engagement. Using this data, WCPSS school and district leaders will be able to assess where we stand relative to our goals in Vision 2020 and understand how to better align resources with identified areas for growth and improvement.
Parents/Guardians should have received an invitation to the survey via email. Click here for the OCE Survey.
If you have already completed the survey, thank you!
Food 4 Kids
The Food 4 Kids collection bin is right outside the front office!
Publix Gift Cards are always welcome, but if you are interested in donating specific items, here is a list of current needs:
Canned Meats (Tuna, Chicken)
Beans (canned or dried)
Rice (small bags)
Soup or Ramen Noodles
Mac & Cheese
Individually bagged snacks (Goldfish, Pretzels, Raisins)
Thank you for continuing to support our OCE community.

WCPSS Presents Letterland at Pullen Park
Raleigh’s Pullen Park will be transformed into Letterland on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. to celebrate preschool and elementary school students in Wake County.
Letterland brings letters to life by turning them into colorful characters, each with their own personality and stories that go along with their sounds. Wake County elementary schools in grades Pre-K-2 and many preschool programs use the phonics program as part of their literacy instruction.
