Student Success!

At Pelham City School the goal of student success is summed up in our vision statement;

Pelham City Schools Charter System will provide all children an equitable and excellent

education that, upon graduation, prepares them for college, career and life.

We believe our children deserve the best education we can give them and that begins with the best partnership we can have with our families from before they come to school all the way to graduation!

The Georgia Department of Education has recently published an excellent guide entitled, A Family's Guide to Title 1 which helps explains the newly named education law, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA). This law focuses on students being fully prepared to graduate and go on to college or career and be successful in the choice they make. Take a minute to explore the Pelham City School website and fine more helpful resources for supporting your students success under the Parent and Family Engagement link!

Test Time!

As we sail near to the end of this school year we are fast approaching assessment time! The Georgia Milestone EOG and EOC tests will administered at the end of this month and into the early part of May. Due to the unprecedented world circumstances and the abnormal school year we have had, GADOE (the Georgia Department of Education) has sought after and received a wavier for testing this year from U.S. Ed. The meaning of this wavier basically boils down to the fact that our tests will not have the full weight they have had in the past. We are pleased with this wavier knowing that it helps take a little of the stress off of our students and yet we still get to see how they will measure up despite the unusual educational experience of this year!

A Parent's Guide to New Tests in Georgia is a great resource offered by GADOE.

I am also adding the PIRC Request Form again as I did in the last newsletter. Please allow me to help you by providing a free copy of the milestone study guides your student needs. These study guides may also be accessed at the GADOE website as well.

Reading is always in season!

Spring is here and there is no better time to grab a great book, sit on the porch with a little lemonade or sweet tea and read a good book! As a parent reading for your self is very important and helps model a healthy past time for the kids in your life. This is also a great time to read outside with your child. I have included a video this month in our newsletter that offers a few tips for reading at home with your child.
