Magers Memo
July 5th, 2018
Thrilled to be your leader!
I hope you are enjoying your summer break and spending quality time with people you love! I know I got to meet each of you briefly on the last day of school but thought I would share a little more information about myself! I look forward to working with each of you and getting to know more about you as well! This year, you will get a "memo" from me each week (Thursday or Friday). I try to put all information in this memo to limit the number of emails you receive, but do also send staff emails when necessary. I apologize for the "tasks" I am giving you during summer, I promise that in the future all tasks will be given during the school year so you can enjoy your summer with no "school tasks". I am officially moved in and working at Sherwood now (woot, woot)! I can't tell you how excited I am about the upcoming school year!
About Me:
I graduated from Missouri State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and also obtained certification in Early Childhood Education. In 2010, I completed my Master of Science in Education, Educational Administration, also from Missouri State University. I completed my doctoral classes this past year, am currently writing my dissertation and will graduate from Southwest Baptist University a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership in May, 2019.
I began my teaching career at York Elementary, where I taught for three years before transferring to David Harrison Elementary. I taught and served as Lead Teacher at David Harrison for the next three years. I served as an assistant principal and principal for the SPS Summer School Program for two summers, prior to becoming the principal at Sequiota Elementary for the last five years. I am passionate about children, families, education and making the world a better place by investing in people. I absolutely love my job and coming to work each day.
When I am not at school I love spending time with my family. I am a wife to Ryan and a mother of four. Larrissa is 19, Nyah is 17, Joslyn is 12 and Tristan is 7. As you can imagine, there is rarely a dull moment at the Magers house! As a family, we love to be outside and stay busy with basketball, gymnastics, camping, hiking, traveling and floating. We love anything near water and enjoy watching movies and cooking!

About Kolbe:
Kolbe sees every person as uniquely and perfectly capable of creative problem solving.
The Kolbe Concept® holds that creative instincts are the source of mental energy that drives people to take specific actions. This mental drive is separate and distinct from passive feeling and thoughts. Creative instincts are manifested in an innate pattern that determines an individual's unique method of operation, or modus operandi (M.O.).
A person's M.O. is quantifiable and observable yet functions at the subconscious level. It governs actions, reactions and interactions. It also determines the person's use of time and natural form of communication. Understanding and exercising control over this mental resource gives people the freedom to be their authentic selves. More info. to come!
Please join me in welcoming new staff!

Part-Time Secretary: Kate Hemphill
Hello! My name is Kate Hemphill and I am glad to be returning to Sherwood to help out in the office as the part-time secretary. I graduated from Missouri State University in 2017 with my Bachelors in Speech and Theatre Education. I spend my time volunteering with local high school theatre programs, but I love to be at home with my family. I am a wife to Eric and a mother to Joe (18 months) and most recently to Henry (7 weeks). Needless to say the summer has been quite busy as we all adjusted to having another little boy around the house. I am very excited to be back at Sherwood and to be helping Bri out with any of her many jobs! Please stop by the front office and let me know if there is anything that I can help you with!
