Halloween Party/Costume Guidelines
We will celebrate Halloween by having a whole school parade and class parties at the end of the day on Monday, October 31st. Students will be permitted to wear their costume for the parade and party. We ask that students do not wear their costumes to school. They will be given some time before 2:00 pm to change into their costumes. Be sure your students’ costumes may easily be put on and taken off. Furthermore, the costumes must be comfortable enough for students to wear while sitting at their desk during the party. Students may NOT wear scary costumes or scary masks that can be considered violent. In addition, please refrain from blood and weapons such as knives, axes, guns, and swords. In addition, no “web shooting" devices should be brought as part of a costume. Also, please do not send any treat bags that contain food or candy as they will NOT be allowed to be handed out and will be sent back home with your child.
Weather permitting, we will do a parade outside at 2 p.m. It will go around the school and parents are welcome to come watch. If inclement weather is an issue at parade time , then we will do the parade inside, but parents will not be able to attend. Thank you for your help in making this a fun day for our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Klinsky or Mrs. Cruz.
October Second Step & PBIS Alignment
To further help our school be a safe and respectful place, we are going to use the Second Step bullying prevention unit to reinforce the PBIS pillars we continue to teach. In these lessons, students will learn specific skills to help stop bullying by being responsible and safe. Bullying is defined as: “an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behavior that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening." - National Center Against Bullying
Students will learn how to recognize when bullying is happening, report bullying to a caring adult, refuse to let bullying happen to themselves or others, and be a bystander who stands up and is part of the solution to bullying. Please discuss the importance of Recognizing, Reporting, and Refusing (3R’s) strategies with your child. Throughout the year, different social-emotional topics will be taught through the classroom curriculum to promote social-emotional growth in all our students.
