Turn and Talk Questions
During LAF Live this morning, the students had a chance to talk with their classmates and answer these questions. Feel free to add them to your dinner table conversation over the weekend.
- Do you think Billy handled Nick Farkas well? What would you have done differently?
- What is the Hodge Podge Lodge? If you had a Hodge Podge Lodge, what would you add to it? Explain.
- What can you tell each other about the Theta Project so far?
LAF Read-a-Thon 2019
Lafayette will be running a 2019 Read-a-thon Fundraiser from Mar 1, 2019 to Mar 31, 2019. This year we are very excited to donate part of the proceeds to support BlinkNow.org a nonprofit foundation that works to empower Nepal’s children by providing quality education, a safe environment and inspiration to the community. We will also use part of the proceeds to purchase books that will be donated to a school in East Orange NJ to help make a difference locally.
A Read-a-thon is like a jog-a-thon, except your child will be reading books instead of running laps, and earning pledges based on how much they read. Pledges can also be made for a fixed dollar amount. Everything is tracked online, which makes inviting sponsors and logging reading much easier! It’s a great way to encourage your kids to read while raising money for great causes that will impact school aged children far and near.
During their library period your child will receive their log in information for their private online account. Parent and student instructions on how to use the website have been sent home. Your child will not be able to invite any sponsors without your authorization. In order to authorize your child's account, simply have your child log in and hit the “Invite Sponsors” button, then follow parent authorization instructions.
Thank you so much for your support!
Sincerely,
Anna Geppel & Jen McNally

4th Grade Trip Update
Housekeeping Items
Delayed Opening Lunches: Thank you for your help today in keeping the numbers in the cafeteria lower than last week by sending in peanut free lunches. Due to the altered schedule, half of the school eats in their classrooms. We do ask all students with peanut lunches and snacks to eat in the cafeteria on delayed openings. During the last delayed opening, a larger number of students relocated to the cafeteria causing overcrowding.
Read as a Family
The purpose of this school-wide event is to take 10 minutes a day or 30 minutes over the weekend to read aloud as a family. Our students are captivated when their teachers read to them in school. This age group continues to benefit from read alouds. Studies show that reading to children helps them to listen better and longer, to build bigger vocabularies, to understand concepts better, to feel positive about both books and learning.
