E Coli
By Everett Moliga
The Concern
E coli is a bacteria from cattle that can result from undercooked ground beef and contact with cow manure. E coli mainly affects humans.
Prevention
You can prevent E coli by cooking your ground beef thoroughly before eating and by washing your hands after coming into contact with cattle or their manure.
Treatment
E coli cannot be treated but you can lower the symptoms like diarrhea by drinking plenty of fluids. Avoid any anti-diarrheal medication, as this will only slow down the digestive system and keep the toxins in your body longer.
FYI
Lastly, if you order a burger at a restaurant, order your burger well done so the meat is thoroughly cooked.
