Mr. B's Bright Lights

Springtime brings more learning!

Bricks 4 Kidz

Merton has a new after school class that is for girls only! Bring your friends and build an amusement park with motorized Lego models with Bricks 4 Kidz. You’ll build a new ride each week learning how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock! Twist on a tilt-a-whirl, spin on a carousel swing and soar on a dragon ride. Open to 3-6th grade and it’s for girls only!

Early Engineers 4 Girlz!

Bricks 4 Kidz classes provide an extraordinary

atmosphere for children, where we learn, we build

and we play...with LEGO® bricks. Programs are built

around our proprietary model plans, designed by

engineers and architects, with exciting themes that

kids love! Our courses are designed to give students

the skills to build models they will later program in

ROBOTICS courses, while developing team building

Help needed!

Subject: Carpenters needed for easy school project

Hello Merton families:

We are in need of some carpenters to work on a small, but fun project to benefit our students. If you know of someone who could lend a helping hand (the project does not have to be done at school), please contact Cathy James or 414.491.1233, who is the project coordinator. She can provide details and answer questions.

Thanks always for your support of our school!

P.S. Look for information next week on our upcoming PTO Staff Appreciation Week May 4-8!

Badger Exam

Our third and fourth graders will begin the Badger Exam this coming week (4/27-5/1) in the areas of math and reading. This past week there was a chance for them to practice how the test will work. Highlighting, typing text, and moving the cursor around are just a few of the nuances of this test. The WKCE is the former assessment that used the traditional fill in the dot and some writing of a solution. This format is totally computerized and taken in our lab. The kids and teachers did a terrific job of getting acclimated to this new assessment procedure.

Look what we designed!

Speed and inertia are key words in the balance and motion science module for grade one. Here you see the kids with their roller coasters testing the theories of their module.

Nothing like a good story!

Here are some of our 4K'ers enjoying a morning story with Mrs. Knipfer, an instructional assistant with Mrs. McMahon.

The book here is a terrific story about a little boy who doesn't like to write, because he thinks he has no stories. Guess what? He has so many stories, just like your children have many stories to write. Hope you have had a chance to read some of their stories. Our writers' workshop is developing our young writers everyday.
