Comet Weekly Update
Granby High School - Week of January 10, 2022
Friday, January 14, 2022 is a Teacher Work Day - Students Not In School
Your weekly update and reminders:
Norfolk Public Schools released their January NPS Now Newsletter earlier this week which had updated guidance that NPS will be following for quarantining and isolation. You can find the whole newsletter here: https://www.smore.com/sbyznr
Below is the guidance as shared in this newsletter:
The Virginia Department of Health has provided interim guidance for K-12 schools following updates from the Centers for Disease Control.
The new guidance allows individuals to return five days after a positive Covid test if the following criteria have been met:
- They have no symptoms, or their symptoms have resolved (no fever).
- They wear a well-fitting mask for five additional days when interacting with others.
- They maintain proper social distance.
When children have to remove their masks to eat or for other reasons, they need to be in a setting that allows for six feet of distance between them and others. If they cannot be six feet apart when they return, they cannot benefit from the reduced five-day quarantine and will need to follow the 10-day quarantine. If they can stay six feet apart when unmasked, they can use the five-day option.
These guidelines will evolve as state and federal public health experts review COVID-19 caseloads and scientific analysis. We will continue to keep you posted on any updates.
For additional information on COVID-19 mitigation and quarantine measures, visit www.npsk12.com/Page/18167 or www.vdh.virginia.gov/coronavirus/.
How to report Covid Exposure or + Covid to Granby High School
If your student tests positive for Covid-19, has symptoms or was exposed to someone who tested positive, please email us at AskGranby@npsk12.com. Granby's administration will collect information and send to our School Nurse who will reach out to you. It is helpful in advance if you can provide this information when you email:
- Student's Name and any siblings at NPS schools
- Best phone number to reach a parent
- When did symptoms start?
- When did your student test positive if tested?
- If exposed when was your student exposed?
- Vaccination status - dates of vaccination and booster are helpful.
Answering these questions when contacting us will help reduce the time to conduct contact tracing and determine when the student can return to school.
We will alert teachers to the quarantine time. Students should continue to work on assignments on Canvas and communicate with their teachers. Students who are quarantining and continue working on assignments will not be penalized for attendance. This is why it is important to report Covid exposure to us ASAP, so we can mark attendance accordingly.
It is important that students and visitors follow the NPS mitigation strategies. Norfolk Public School's Health Mitigation Plan can be found HERE. Vaccinations are still the best defense in preventing Covid as well as having reduced symptoms if exposed. Information about vaccinations can be found below. Please remember that booster shots are now available for ages 16 and up, and approval for boosters 12-15 is coming soon.
