Badminton
The badminton team continues to have a growth season and is learning quite a bit each and every day. They will have plenty of learning opportunities this week as they have three matches to look forward to, the first of which is Today, at 4:30 PM at Como Park. After the hawks take care of the cougars, they will take on Johnson on Thursday and Highland on Friday, both game happening on the road. Keep having fun and enjoying the experience of badminton!
Softball
The Hawks only had one game last week, but it was a nail-biter. The Softball team was able to defeat Washington by a score of 12-11, securing their first victory of the season. The team was able to rally around the pitching of Hai Gay Soe, and the strong infield presence of Jocelyn Mann as well as Jerusalem Wondimu. While they only had one game last week, they will make up for the lost time this week, playing three different games. The First of which will be Today, on the road vs Como Park. The Cougars are off to a strong start to their season this year, but the Hawks are ready to build momentum off of their big conference win last week and secure another W today. Additionally, the Hawks will play on the road at Highland Park on Wednesday, and Host Brooklyn Center on Thursday. Good luck this week softball!
Tennis
Tennis had a really strong performance on Friday against crosstown rival Minneapolis Edison, dropping the match 4-3. An unfortunate bussing mishap had the boys arrive moments before the match, and had they not started the match cold, they could have secured the victory. They will have another winnable match against a Minneapolis school Tomorrow when they host Minneapolis Roosevelt for a 4:00 PM match. They have two more matches this week, hosting section rival South St. Paul on Thursday, and heading to Brooklyn Center on Friday for an away match. Good luck to the tennis boys in their 3 matches this week!
Track and Field
The track and field team ran in a non-conference race this past Friday against some tough opponents in Park High School, Woodbury, and Concordia Academy. While the Hawks weren't able to secure the overall victory in the meet, they did have several bright spots throughout the day. One of these bright spots came during the distance events, with Willa Campion finishing 2nd overall in the 1600m dash. Another moment of pride was in the 200m dash, where Elijah Stende took 2nd place as well! This week, the Track team is back in conference action, running at Central High School this Thursday beginning at 4:00 PM. Continue to make us proud track team!
Baseball
Your Hawks Baseball team earned their first victory of the season on Friday, defeating the mighty Eagles of Washington! Pitcher Jacion Jones helped the Hawks by throwing 3 innings of the game, while Ruben Ambrocio came in the later innings to close the door. Another Hawk with a notable outing was 8th grader Riley Shaw, who helped to solidify the win with several base hits. The Hawks have a rematch with the Eagles Today, at Arlington and Arkwright Baseball field at 4:30 PM. Goodluck Hawks!
PI Softball
no PI softball news this week.
Boys and Girls Golf
Humboldt's golf team had a good week last week, competing strongly with Como Park. The team continues to show improvement, with both the boys and girls teams shaving strokes off of their overall team score. This week, both the boys and girls teams will compete, with the boys taking on Highland Park at the Highland National Tomorrow, and Johnson at the Highland National on Thursday. Meanwhile, the Girls are playing today, against Johnson at Cedarholm, and Como on Wednesday at Cedarholm. Good luck to both the girls and boys golf teams!
Volleyball
For the first time EVER, Humboldt will be hosting an interscholastic Boys Volleyball game this Tuesday at 5:30 PM! Boys Volleyball is a new sport this year at Humboldt, and the team would love to have your support during their first game in the Hawks' nest. Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for students! Signs, chants, and positive school spirit are always welcome in the Hawks' gymnasium!
