Mrs. Wiel's Class

If it's happening, it's here!

Meet Mrs. Wiel

wielc@rcschools.net

Name:

Connie Wiel

Education:

BA in Music Education, Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, North Carolina (Go Bulldogs!)

M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, UNC-Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina (Go Tarheels!)

Experience:

This is my 27th year teaching. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. I have also supervised student teachers as an adjunct faculty member at UNC-Asheville and MTSU.

Family:

My husband, Randy, and I have been married 30 years. Randy is a mostly retired basketball coach who substitute teaches because he enjoys the kids (and it keeps him out of having to do as much yard work). We have one son, Zander, who is a 2015 graduate of Vanderbilt University. He played first base on the 2014 College World Series Championship Vanderbilt Baseball Team (Go Commodores!!) and is now with the Minnesota Twins organization pursuing his dream of playing professional baseball.

Interests:

I love traveling. I have been to four continents (North America, South America, Africa, and Europe) and 46 states (all but Alaska, Oregon, North Dakota, and South Dakota). I enjoy SCUBA diving, although I haven't had time to do much of it lately. I spend lots of my free time (i.e., summers) reading. I enjoy many of the dramas on TV (all that NCIS/CSI/Law and Order stuff, plus Nashville and Scandal). My very favorite thing to do, though, is watching Zander play baseball. Get ready. You'll hear lots of Zander stories from your children when the season rolls around.

Parents,

I has been a pleasure to have your children in my class this year. We've had a lot of fun and learned a lot too. I hope you will all have a safe, happy, blessed summer. Relax and have some fun!

Sincerely,

Connie Wiel

VOCABULARY WORDS - These are the vocabulary words that go with the stories in our reading textbooks this week. These is no homework associated with these words, but they are included in some way on our test each week, so it would certainly be helpful if you would go over them with your child each week. There are usually eight words (highlighted in yellow). The first one is given in a way that offers a suggestion of how you could study the words with your child. The others just give the definitions.

Vocabulary Routine:

No new vocabulary words this week.

Suggested Reading

Recommended Reading:

I've listed some book characters for your child to make friends with over the summer. Also, please be sure to give them the opportunity to read nonfiction. Some children will get interested in a subject and want to read everything they can about it. More power to them!!

(These books vary in difficulty. If you are unsure, just have your child read a little and see if you think they can handle it. It's not for AR testing, so the level isn't as important. Just remember, the children will not grow as much if the book is too easy or too hard, but most importantly, they will not grow if they don't read it. So don't try to push them into something they are not interested in.)
