"How to Write Great College Essays" FREE workshop hosted by Collegewise
Many great kids write average (even bad) college essays—essays about “life lessons learned from football” or “how my trip to Europe broadened my cultural horizons.” Better tales are there for the writing. This workshop will show you what admissions officers really look for in great college essays, and offer suggestions for finding and sharing your best stories. We'll talk about how to approach the new UC Insight Questions, the Common App essay prompts, and supplemental essays.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your space(s), please email our speaker, Patti Winkel, pattiw@collegewise.com with the names and emails for each guest, or you may register online at https://collegewise.com/event/write-great-college-essays-pasadena/.

Welcome to your senior year!
We hope you had a great summer. As one of the first tasks of your senior year, we’d like you to review your Naviance accounts and make sure you completed all of the tasks that were part of the Junior College Project. Here is a recap of the required components:
For all students intending to apply to college in this Fall, the following tasks must be completed prior to meeting with your counselor to request secondary school reports, letters of rec, transcripts, etc.

2. Supermatch
3. Add 5 colleges to “Colleges I’m thinking about tab”
4. Build a resume in Naviance
5. Complete Strengths Explorer
College Project Part 2 (presented via history classes last May; students without a history class were invited to attend any sessions)
1. Complete any unfinished tasks from Part 1
2. Continue researching “good fit colleges” and refining your list for reach, target, & safety options
3. Complete the Student Brag Sheet
4. Parents complete the Parent Brag Sheet
5. Request teachers for letters of recommendation in person
Summer goals
1. Complete remaining tasks in College Project Part I and Part II
2. Draft UC Personal Insight Questions and/or Common App Essay
3. Create and fill out Common Application starting August 1st
4. Continue researching and visiting colleges
Tasks appear in Naviance under the “My Planner” tab in the “tasks assigned to me” section.
