Class Placement Input for Parents / Guardians

Each spring, placement teams begin the process of developing the next year's class rosters. Placement teams take great care to consider a number of factors that contribute to the success of each child, including social, emotional, and academic factors. Teams also consider factors that lead to balanced classrooms that benefit all students, such as balancing class size, academic strengths and goals, and behavioral and work habits. Placement teams include your child's teacher, other grade level teachers, specialists, counselor, principal, and other staff knowledgeable of your child and your child's grade level peers.

If you would like to provide input to the placement team, please fill out the form by May 10th. Requests for specific teachers are not considered as a part of the placement process.

Class Placement Input for Parents / Guardians

Input may include:

  • Academic, social, and/or emotional strengths and/or needs
  • Instructional methods or aspects of the learning environment that benefit your child
  • Goals you would like to see next year's teacher work towards with your child

State Testing Notification

Oregon school districts are required to administer state assessments this spring in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and science. The Oregon Department of Education’s request to waive these assessments due to the pandemic was denied by the federal government. However, a revised waiver has been conditionally approved to require fewer assessments at each grade level this year, per the below schedule. In addition, the ELA and math assessments have been shortened and will take less time to complete this year.

  • Grade 3: ELA
  • Grade 4: Math
  • Grade 5: Science
  • Grade 6: ELA
  • Grade 7: ELA and Math
  • Grade 8: Math and Science
  • Grade 11: ELA and Math
State assessments cannot be administered remotely due to the need to maintain security and provide accessibility supports to students where applicable. All participating students, including those in the LO Online program, must be assessed by trained district staff in a secure environment such as a school building. Any parent who does not wish their student to take these assessments is asked to notify the school using Oregon’s legislated processes:
  • ELA and/or math (grades 3, 4, 6–8 and 11): submit the state opt-out form to your child’s school. The form is available on the State Assessments page of the District website.
  • Science (grades 5 and 8 only): submit a written request for exemption to your child’s school (email or US mail).
Each school will determine its own testing schedule and logistics. Parents of LO Online students will be contacted with additional information. Please let your student’s school know if you have questions.

New Quarantine Rules for School

Clackamas County Public Health has issued new guidance that supersedes all previous requirements regarding quarantining and schools. Following is a summary of the new quarantine requirements effective for new cases starting April 12, 2021. Questions may be directed to COVIDschoolliaison@clackamas.us.

A person who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to ISOLATE for 10 days (and be fever-free for 24 hours and their symptoms are improving).

Close contacts of someone who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to QUARANTINE for 10 to 14 days depending on where the exposure occurred. A close contact is someone who was within 6 feet of the infected person for more than 15 cumulative minutes in 24 hours.

  1. A 14-day quarantine will now be required for high-risk exposures in school related settings: Such settings include sports practice, games and travel, certain extracurricular activities, and social gatherings.

    1. Individuals who live in the same household as someone who tests positive for COVID-19 are required to quarantine for 14 days.

  1. A minimum of 10-day quarantine will be required for controlled, low-risk settings: Such settings include classrooms and buses. Individuals doing the minimum 10-day quarantine should continue to monitor themselves for symptoms during days 10-14. Individuals may choose to quarantine 14 days.

  1. Per public health authorities, testing out of quarantine will not be an option for Clackamas County. While the CDC presents a third option of ending quarantine 7 days post-exposure with a negative PCR-test on day 5 or later, local public health authorities are ultimately responsible for establishing local quarantine guidelines.

Erin's Law Lessons

What Is Erin’s Law?

In 2015, the Oregon legislature passed SB 856, also known as Erin’s Law. Erin’s Law requires the development and adoption of child sexual abuse prevention programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade in all Oregon public schools.

SB 856 mandates that all Oregon Public Schools provide:

  • A minimum of 4 instructional sessions (equal to or greater than a standard class period) of sex abuse prevention instruction per year for grades kindergarten through 12

  • Sexual abuse instruction that is integrated and part of required district comprehensive sexuality education plan and is aligned with state standards

  • Instruction that is age appropriate, medically accurate, and is not shame or fear based

  • Instruction that is culturally inclusive and is responsive to diverse students including race, ethnicity, gender identity and sexual orientation

  • A parental involvement component to inform parents about child sexual abuse topics

  • A professional training component for administrators, teachers and other school personnel

Elementary teachers will begin these lessons in April. Look for specific communication from your child’s teacher.
