A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal

Happy New Year GRHS Longhorns,

Welcome back! It might have taken until January to finally get some WINTER "type" weather, but it defintely has made a dramatic entrance! Monday is a teacher staff development day, but we will be ready to see our Longhorns bright and early on Tuesday morning to kick off the second semester and our Class of 2022's #SRSZN! Seniors, don't blink...because it will fly by so enjoy the ride! Soak up every memory and moment with your friends as you can before you start the next leg of your journey in college, the military, or the work force! You will do GR-eat things, I just know it!

Our office will be open again on January 3rd from 8:00-4:00, but our teachers/instructional staff will be in professonal development this day and will get back to you on Tuesday.

COVID PROTOCOL REMINDER:

Coming off a long winter's break, we know there will be positive cases as we come back together for the second semester. Below are the reminders of what YOU will need to do if your student has tested POSITIVE for COVID. Please REREAD the CURRENT LCISD/GRHS protocols below carefully for how to report it and ensure that minimal disruption will happen to your student's schedule. We need your assistance (by closely following the steps) to make this TEMPORARY REMOTE CONFERENCING period as smooth as possible.

Semester Class Leveling Ongoing:

You might have noticed that schedules are fluctuating in Skyward and will continue to do this through Monday afternoon as our counselors are working hard to BALANCE out "heavy" classes. We will work hard to try and keep this to a minimum, but please know that this is a necessary thing to ensure that there is plenty of space (seats) in the classrooms for all our Longhorns. We try to keep this "unpopular" task to just at semester, but it is still necessary nonetheless. Thanks for your understanding and make sure and check Skyward prior to arriving ot school on Tuesday. (Monday evening would be best).

MAKE UPS FOR FINAL EXAMS ONLY THIS WEEK AFTER SCHOOL:

If you were absent during your final exam, you must get with your teacher on the make-up date (which will be after school ONLY) during the week of the 4th-7th. If you fail to do this, it will be recorded as a zero in the gradebook. It is YOUR responsibility.

NEW YEAR'S GIFT...a NEW ID!

YES they are still mandatory and since we are GIVING you a SECOND free one, there is no excuse not to have it on! :) This wil be the LAST FREE ID you will be GIFTED. After that it will be $5 for replacement ones in the library.

  • REMEMBER: NO ID ON = No Phone/Airpods/Headphones! ID's are mandatory! No more temporaries will be issued. If you need a NEW ID/Lanyard- can be purchase for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15 daily! Lanyards/ID's should be on the second you step through the doors each day. Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.
  • WHY ID's? It's a safety and security thing. It makes you easily identifiable to ANY STAFF MEMBER (there are 220 adults in this building each day and not all of them will know you or vice versa) in case of an emergency. Thanks for helping us keep YOU safe. It's our job, so your cooperation is appreciated.

The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

You may respond anytime via email between Tuesday, December 7th and Friday, January 7th, 2022! Good luck, we can’t wait to see what you have to say!

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS!

Behavior Reminders!

  • No ID = NO PHONE USE (even at lunch) If you refuse to put them up, it's a write up.
  • Phones must be put away at all times in the classrooms, unless there is an instruction purpose GIVEN by the teacher and the sign is on GREEN. If you refuse to follow this, it will be a write up.
  • Ignoring teachers/staff when they are asking you to put on ID or to put your phone up will be a write up. (That's just disrespect)
  • In the hallways without an ID AND a pass during class time, will be a write up. Parents- if you wonder why grades are slipping...it's their personal devices and lack of urgency to participate in class.
  • Instigating, participating, or videoing an altercation (regardless of how small) will be a write up. If you are part of a fight, you will be placed at ALC.

Let me say...that you are BETTER than this, but the lack of respect (post COVID) that many are showing is not fair to the MAJORITY of our Longhorns and Staff that are here putting in the work each and every day. Do better...because you ARE better!

NO ILLEGAL PARKING ON 762 to pick up students (or DROPPING OFF IN PARKING LOT) PLEASE! THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE, CAUSING PARKING ISSUES FOR OUR STAFF TO GET TO MORNING TUTORIALS!
