Zen Den Presents for Caregivers
Happy Fall 'Yall
As our school year kicks into gear, we are still in the process of fully staffing the Zen Den for this school year. We are currently operating on a modified schedule with closures as needed, but will be fully staffed soon. This section of the newsletter will be updated to introduce our staff (just 2 of us) once I have my partner in Aloha. Stay tuned.
The Zen Den is a student focused program where students can request services and find resources. To keep parents informed, this newsletter is where we will share information for parents about happenings your students can seek out in our center, and also share some tools parents can use to help create a positive environment at home.
* We will be on a "counseling takeover" for 3 days in September so Mrs. Goldenberg can attend a valuable training with Wellness Together (a statewide meeting on student mental health) and bring back valuable and timely learning to share with the district. Thank you to our school counseling team for stepping in to help while Mrs. G is away and while we are waiting to be fully staffed with our Intake Assistant.
Topic of the Month: Virtual Well-Being / Wellness Center Tools
One of the requests from last year from caregivers/parents was to get tips on how to create their own "Zen Den" space at home, because their youth really like being here and they want to create a "reset break" space at home. You ask, Mrs. G delivers. This year I am introducing the topic of the month with things you can do at home to create some of the atmosphere we strive to provide here.
In August we addressed the "Digital Detox" project - where we encourage our students to put away phones and technology for a little while to unplug from the outside world. It's a part of our reset process.
This month, September, we introduce you to the tools we have available on our website.
These tools are on our new Wellness in SRVUSD website which connects all 4 of our comprehensive high school wellness programs. This month we will cover alternative uses FOR technology, and several ways to use your technology as a tool at home. We know you can't have all of the tools we offer in the Zen Den at hand at home, so we have a series of online tools that can be accessed in the classroom, in our center, at home, and anywhere you can connect to the internet. Check out some of these tools, and next time you or your family need a little respite, try a virtual tool.
The well-being focused online tools provided on our site include:
- Sleep Help
- Guided Meditations & Yoga
- Sounds & Music
- Books to help (Bibliotherapy)
- Visual tools for relaxation
- Virtual Coloring & Art
- Puzzles & Games
- Grief Management
- and MORE (Resource list for community help, for locating mental health treatment, emergency lines, LGBTQ+ external resources, etc)
