The 4th Grade News
Week of April 13, 2015
A Note from Ms. Deal
Dear Parents,
I hope you all are enjoying the weekend. Thank you for remembering to prepare your students for P.E. this week with their swim gear. If you wish for your child to not participate in swimming for specific reasons, please let me know.
We had a wonderful week in 4th grade finishing up many of our old units. We have completed Measurement in Math and Energy in Science. We will be starting our final content unit on Monday, Economy. Part of this unit is Market Day which will be Wednesday, May 27th. Another part of our Economy Unit this year will be visiting the Pearl Market. We will do that on Tuesday, April 28th. We are recruiting parent volunteers on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in going with us, please let me know!
Thank you for your continued support as we move in to the final quarter of the year! Have a wonderful end to your weekend and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Ms. Deal

Writing: This week the 4th graders learned about hooks. We discussed that good writers start their writing with something to hook the reader. There are many ways writers can hook a reader- see if your 4th grader can tell you how! Each Wednesday your child will have a writing assignment from me, due on Thursday.
Reading: This week the students practiced their "close reading" skills. We looks at different nonfiction texts about Energy and closely read the passages together. We are discussing "look-back" strategies and summarizing skills.
