Term 1 Awards 🤗
Each term at MHS, we award 2 TCP students per grade The Calculus Project Term Awards. These students are chosen because of their growth and hard work in math class during the term.
Please read more about our Term 1 award winners below.
Grade 9 Recipients
Jordan Thompson
Jordan has worked hard this term to understand difficult concepts in Course 1 Honors. Throughout term 1, Jordan completed all of his classwork and homework assignments with care. His teacher, Mr. Pullia, noted that Jordan is a deserving candidate for the Term 1 TCP Award because of his success in Course 1 so far this year. We look forward to watching Jordan’s progress through the rest of the year in Course 1 Honors!
Josue Castillo Savage
While taking Course 1 Honors this year, Josue has tackled each challenge with hard work and persistence. Josue has been regularly attending the Tutoring Center with insightful questions and works hard to apply learned strategies in class. Josue completed all of his diligence assignments this term which ultimately helped him perform well on his assessments. We are excited to watch Josue continue to grow as a mathematician this year!
Grade 10 Recipients
Lia Duran
Lia is excelling in Course 2 Honors this year. This is a rigorous course, but Lia tackles each challenge with hard work. When faced with a difficult problem, she stays organized and positive in the problem-solving process. Her ability to be consistent in her processes no matter how challenging the problem at hand has led to her getting some of the highest scores in the class on each assessment in term 1. We are so proud of Lia’s accomplishments in math so far!
Markaysa Porter
Markaysa is a passionate math student in Course 2 Honors this year. She is hungry for learning and will work on problems outside of class in order to get ahead before learning the concepts in class. Markaysa is also an asset in group work. She is always willing to help out her peers when they are confused by explaining the steps she took to solve the problem at hand. We look forward to seeing Markaysa’s mathematical interests and talents continue to flourish in Course 2 this year!
Grade 11 Recipients
Ivie Iriowen
Ivie has been outstanding in Algebra 2 Honors this year. She is thoughtful in class, asking questions that show deeper mathematical thinking. She is eager to perform well and she helps her classmates succeed as well. Ivie works well with her peers by explaining her steps in a problem and listening to what others say in order to gain a deeper understanding. After a quiz at the beginning of the term she was not as happy about, she took it upon herself to come in for extra help and do more work outside of school in order to improve in the class. That dedication paid off - as the term went on she became stronger in her skills and more confident as a mathematician. We look forward to Ivie's continued success this year!
Ella Holloway
Ella has worked diligently this year in Algebra 2 Honors and her hard work has led to a very successful first term! Ella moved up to the honors level this year, which can be a difficult adjustment, but she has taken the jump in stride. She is always on top of her work and feels comfortable asking her classmates or her teacher questions if she is ever stuck. She takes pride in her work and has put in the time to be successful. We cannot wait to see Ella’s success continue as the year goes on!
Grade 12 Recipients
Jaylah White
Jaylah took on a big challenge by jumping up from Course 3 CP to Calculus Honors this year and she is CRUSHING it! It is clear that Jaylah took pride in her work at The Calculus Project Summer Academy: she comes into each new lesson with a strong foundation of the skills she learned this summer. She is a diligent worker so that she can perfect her skills. During class, Jaylah asks relevant and thoughtful questions, volunteers her solutions so that her peers can learn from her work, and helps her partner when working in pairs. We are proud of Jaylah for taking Calculus and excited about her future success in the course!
Dharnel Jean-Pierre
Dharnel is excelling in Calculus Honors. After attending the Summer Academy, he came into the class ready to dive deeper into the concepts. Dharnel picks up on concepts in calculus very quickly and works diligently to fine-tune his skills during class. He volunteers to present his solutions to the class often and is helpful to his peers during group work. Dharnel is always focused. We are studying derivatives right now and they seem to be in Dharnel’s wheelhouse! We can’t wait to see what Dharnel does with his success in calculus in the future!
