Epps Island
Newsletter January 2021
Happy New Year Epps Island families! We hope that everyone had a safe break.
Communication is also very important and if you know of someone who is not receiving these monthly newsletters, our school emails and parent links, then they are also not receiving the district emails nor alerts as we all use the same contact information that is in the system. Please help us spread the word that we need to have all families' current contact information. Anyone can call our Registrar, Diana Ortiz at 832-484-5767 to provide updated, working and phone numbers and email addresses.
KOL and KOC Reminders
If your student is coded as a KOC (Klein On-Campus) student the expectation is that the student attends campus daily for instruction. If a student is unable to attend campus, then they will be counted absent for the day. The student will be allowed to work asynchronously through Schoology, but will not be allowed to attend Zoom. Our hope is to get closer to a sense of normalcy, as best as possible, in our current conditions.
For our KOL (Klein Online) students, families received a notification from the district asking to confirm their student's mode of instruction for the second quarter. If families would like to switch their students from online to on campus, the form took them to the mode of instruction change request. If families wanted their students to remain online, then the form asked them to review and sign an attestation form that included online guidelines and processes for students and parents to follow to help make the online learning experience successful for their students. Students that do not follow these expectations will be removed from the Zoom room.
Students who have trouble with their technology need to go asynchronous for the day, contact their teacher, and submit a Student & Family Tech Support Ticket.
We're also contacting KOL students who are not being successful (failing grades, inconsistent attendance, not turning in work consistently and on time, reading behind grade level, etc.) Per TEA, these students are are required to return to school unless they have a medical exemption.
Remote Learning Days
Thursday, February 11, 2021 is a district-wide day of Remote Learning (Learning from home) for ALL students.
Our teachers are working harder than ever to teach students both in-person and virtually. To support our teachers in providing a positive learning experience for your children, one area in need of immediate attention is additional planning and preparation time for our classroom teachers. To that end, we are designating the following dates as Remote Learning Days:
Thursday, February 11, 2021
Friday, March 12, 2021
Friday, April 16, 2021
On these Remote Learning Days, Klein On Campus students will receive a packet to work on at home. Klein On line students will also receive a packet or assignments on Schoology in an asynchronous format (not live Zoom.) Students who attend school on these days will be monitored by teacher assistants and required to complete the same work as students in remote learning.
Transportation, breakfast, and lunch will be provided on campus.
All students must turn in completed assignments at the end of that day n order to be counted present on these Remote Learning days.
Please call the front office if you have any questions at 832-484-5800.

There’s good news! Cardiovascular disease is largely preventable.
