Sickle cell anemia is a disease passed down through families. The red blood cells which are normally shaped like a disc take on a sickle or crescent shape. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body.
African Americans are affected by it.
One cause of Sickle Cell is pain In the chest and the abdomen. Second cause of Sickle Cell is the disease Anemia. The third cause of Sickle Cell is disease in the cheats and troubled breathing. If you have Sickle Cell you should take some healthy life steps. The people of today can live up to there 40's and 50's.
It is a mutation that accrues on chromosome 11 it is also an hemoglobin beta gene.
Treatments and Cures
Some treatments work but the is no cure for the Sickle Cell Disease. Blood transfusion taken daily by mouth is one treatment. Oxygen therapy helps prevent dehydration.
- People who have SCD (Sickle Cell Disease) inherent 2 SC (Sickle Cell) genes ("S") from each parent
- The names SC came from the blood vessel but it looks like a blade.
- There is over ten million carry SCD
- Hemoglobin is affected by SCD because it carries oxygen transport.
